Stopped by Scheels for my weekly disappointment.
CCI BR-4 for $125/1k
No.41's for $110/1k

Nope.

Up the road to Bass Pro for part II.
Just this side of $300 and I'm the proud/disgruntled owner of 1 brick of Federal SPP and 2 bricks of "Gold" Match SRP's.

Yes I caved in but at least I have a few primers again. Grrrrrrrr.

And you if you're in my neighborhood, Stay Off My Lawn!!!

Guilty as charged Sir.

In my defense I offer you these critical details.
The young man in the vicinity was adamant that there were no limits and we could by whatever quantity we wanted. Notice I said "We".....

My shopping partner relayed that I should not settle for one brick of SPP's when I'm down a few hundred SRP's and nothing else.

So at the insistence of my wife I was ushered to the cashier with three bricks of over-priced primers. What was I supposed to do? Say NO?

I believe until we see an almost unlimited supply of primers on the shelves, like the good old days of only a few years ago, we are going to be seeing these prices. I do not believe the manufacturers are purposefully short-supplying to drive prices north. Lots of good sources of info, on this forum, have offered perfectly logical reasons for primer shortages. Until our manufacturing/production/transportation catches up with demand stuff is going to be high - it's sure happening at the grocery store.

I can't (won't) have ammo unless I make my own and as along as my stuff is less than manufactured ammo, assuming that's even available, I will continue to modestly purchase primers when I see the occasional "better" deals.

For whatever reason, Scheels keeps getting those CCI 41's and BR-4's. I bought a ton of those 41's when they were cheaper but they are really only good for AR. The price today is outrageous.
The price will not drop as long as we continue to buy components at these prices...
The prices aren't going back. Even if you removed all the other factors, your money is worth 10% less than it was a year ago. I also think the industry is done with selling components at low margins. This might be a luxury hobby going forward where it only makes sense if you load for precision rifle or exotic/obsolete cartridges.

Probably not anytime soon. And if eventually if they do come down, it's most likely not going to be a lot.

Now I am curious. Why do you say #41s are good only for ARs? I've used them extensively in my Rem 788 with no issues.

Gonna go out on a limb and state 41's are a NATO Spec primer for 5.56. That's not say they can't be used for other rounds though.

My research indicates they are not a good choice for use in SPR applications as well. Too hard of a cup.

What makes you think they won't end up being underpriced primers? And if they aren't, is 300 dollars really going o make or break you? There's that thing called the "fun factor" which is even more important these days!! Plus there's that thing a bout it being your money!

You.... and me.... and others..... are shooting. The complainers aren't. It's not like primers are the only thing in the world that have gone up in price.

Have fun at the range!

P.S.- you have a nice wife, it sounds like!

When I look at the prices I am glad I stocked up years ago and still have at least 5k in each size. Hopefully prices will come down by the time I need to stock up again

It's CCI's magnum SR primer with more space between cup and anvil. I guess if you need a substitute for SRM's it would be worth experimenting, otherwise they seem to be 20% more expensive than regular SRP's. On the other hand, I have used SRM and regular SRP in two AR's without slam fires or popped primers. They are good enough for plinking ammo, anyway.

If you have #41s on hand, try them. There are always exceptions, but they will likely work just as well as other primers. Always shoot a few five-shot groups for comparison with other primers.

The price will not drop as long as we continue to buy components at these prices. Bullet prices online have dropped to almost normal when bought on sale, but shipping and the new improved sales tax rules still make it hurt.
Yep, I have cancelled a few orders when I got to the shipping section in Checkout. Way too exorbitant for me and on many small purchased the shipping is more than the product.
