I've been paying attention to current events regarding the Ukraine. Specifically, the "militia" training volunteers (age, sex not relevant) in the use of small arms. In my lifetime I've probably fired conservatively 150K rounds. Took my CZ P07 out for it's 4th session, flawless performance with the round count almost 500. I tried to induce failure, none happened. The gun points exactly where I aim it. It's ready for carry as soon as I lose 10 lbs so it will ride in my waistband without my belt strangling me. Fired 55rds of .357 full house rds, flawless performance and the groups (at 50 ft) improved. The 28-2 ain't the prettiest girl at the dance but she sure has style.
The "not ready" part is me. At 1 birthday short of 70, I am a shadow of my former self. 40 years ago I could throw a 94# bag of Portland cement on my shoulder and scurry it up a gang ladder to the 4th floor. Now, I can't see the sights even with glasses, my grip won't break an egg and carrying my 40 lb of gear from my truck to the line gets me gasping. If'n I was a horse I'd be in a trailer on my way to the dogfood factory. I ain't giving up though.
I am so impressed by the Ukrainian spirit. They know they are outnumbered, out gunned, unorganized and mostly wet behind the ears or over the hill. But they are prepared to die on their feet rather than under a Russian bootheel. Sort of like the Americans and the English in the 18th century. Somehow the words of Sam Elliot as Basil Plumley are in my head: "Gentlemen; prepare to defend yourselves."
Maybe it's a dream or sabre rattling or some other bluff. One can hope. Joe

Safe to say, the 28 saw a lot of combat right here in the good, old US of A.
