I've been hearing that claim for weeks. Simply put, I don't believe it.

And I've never seen a credible, specific source for the claim.

Why doesn't NRA come out and either confirm or deny it? Sooner or later the people will accept that they did weather they did or not, you know the more you here it the more the less informed will believe it.

NRA did not support it...at least that is what the e-mail I got from them said. Our media is so bias...like 90% of the public support this bill that got shot down????? Bull **** Believe very little of what you hear in the media...it all needs to be checked and confirmed. there is a lot of mis-information out there. If you want to know where the NRA stands...go to the their web site.....e-mail them....join them.....they stand to defend the second amendment and they are doing it.
I believe that none of us want to see mentally disturbed people that are a danger...have a firearm for obvious reasons....but whta has been proposed goes way beyond that....and don't think there are not trolls on here that would try to spread false information.

NRA made it plain from the beginning that they were opposed to the bill. A Politico article from late yesterday or this morning gave as one of the main reasons the bill would probably fail was NRA's refusal to bend. Also, according to the article, NRA made sure that Senators in pro-gun states who voted in favor of the bill would be held accountable, meaning NRA would be willing to spend big bucks to put pro gun people in their place.

WHY would any conjecture from big brother/sister be given a second thought??? it is only given to control the impressionable and maintain a voting base.

I am an NRA member, but do not rely on the NRA to tell me how to vote or what bill to support. It could be that other NRA members feel similarly.

I like the current NICS system just fine, and they don't need to change it. I also like the fact that I can buy or sell a firearm within my state without a NICS check. I have bought a few firearms that way, and I would like to continue to do so, since going to a place with an FFL would be an incredible pain in the *** for most sellers and buyers.

I have bought rusty guns for less than $50 before - completely on a whim. If I had to say "hey I'll give you fifty bucks for that, but we'll need to take it to Bubba's gun world to do a background check first", then that spur of the moment whim would wane, rather quickly.

That's why I oppose it, not because the NRA tells me to, or because I simply am a member of the NRA. I think the NRA is full up on their "nutball" quota as it is. I don't need to join in the mob mentality, and I would urge everyone to learn about issues and figure out where they stand by themselves.

Show me a good shot and I'll show you a thinking man, GM... plenty of those here.
As difficult as it is to accept, the voices with the most access in our country are sublimating the truth in order to advance their personal and party agendas. If 90% agreed, there'd be no debate, no heated divide and no votes against.

IF, the left would ever stop the blatent lieing to puish thier gun control agenda I might be inclined to stop and look at some proposals. When they keep blathering the lies about all internet sales being done without background checks, 40% of sales being done without background checks, etc. it does nothing for my trust for sure. I have a proposal for those who wanted the additional background checks to pass the senate - make a voluntary use system.... Come up with a system that allows a seller to run a background check on a buyer - if they want to. I would bet you that 75% of private sellers would use it - at least for sales to people they don't know.. This round the supporters of the bill got nothing, make it voluntary and you can get 74% of what you want...

I recently joined the NRA because I got sick of the movement to implement gun control. Chat rooms are full of people from outside our country wanting to shove gun control down our throats. I also want armed guards put into schools. I also consider any kind of universal background checks pushed by politicians will ultimately lead to gun confiscation. While my revolvers were not on the list, I know that they
eventually would come for them too. But the anti gun agenda is still alive and will be a continued threat to 2nd amendment rights.

The NRA has over 3 million members. I believe that some of those 3 million do support universal background checks, universal and international gun registration. and any other loony legislation thinking it will never apply to them. "I'm not a criminal. They don't want to take my guns." There are ostriches among us.

The administration lost me when they wanted to Ban "assualt weapons" Their term...not mine. Then they wanted to limit the magazine capacity, then they wanted to have "extended background checks" So basically...they want to in fringe on the second amendment...and if they are allowed to "infginge" a little...they can Infringe alot. Thats where they lose me permanently.
If they had come out and said...we ought to do something about trying to keep guns out of the hands of mentally violent people...they would have an audience and I am sure the NRA would be happy to have worked with them.....but...they came at it ...as if they are going to take away as much as they can get from the people that have never been a problem and no do nothing to make children safer or prevent criminals from getting guns.
We have a Constitution that limits the power that we allow the government to have. When they try to go beyond that...we are going to push back...and they go in with the attitude ..lets go after as much as we can....and see what sticks. Throw out any bill....who cares if it is constitutional...if we can make it stick...we have them. That attitude just woke up every freedom loving person that values our Constitution and our Bill of rights....and from this point on...I say not one more inch because our openents do not respect our concerns. The Senators do not work for the president...they are there to serve the people that elected them and honor the Oath they took at the same time. They are not there to serve the "Party" they work for us and are paid by us.
Do I think the opposition will accept that the people do not want their rights trampled.?....while...we heard Joe...and he said this is not over....so we will continue to battle over our rights while many other problems get over looked.
If I had been President, and I was serious about protecting children, I would have asked for retired and trained military Vets to help out for the sake of our children...there is no money for guards...towns are struggling to get by as it is....but we are a patroitic people and we will do what needs to be done to protect our children and our country because we are "Home Land Security".(We will do it with or without their blessing) I would have asked the NRA and the Second amendment foundation to help craft a bill that would keep mentally disturbed violent people away from firearms as much as possible and in no way Infringe on the second amendment or the Constitution......but when he took the route he took...he lost all of us.
And he will never get that back...once trust is gone...its gone for good.
We will stay vigilent because they will attack again and we need to be ready. Remember to weed the garden come election time. I always thought ...throw em all out...but I have rethought that...we need to keep the ones in office that listen to the people and work within the frame work of the Constitution...some of them do get it.
