Ny turkeys

Several years ago there was a group residents in a suburb near me who began complaining about an over-population of whitetail deer. They didn't want to kill them (no hunting, no poison, etc. even though a couple bow hunting clubs wanted the meat for charity) and finally convinced the state to trap and relocate. There was a 75% mortality rate. That meat could have fed a bunch of people but was lost. Sounds like the same situation in NY.

The article says that there are online things that we can sign to prevent the slaughter of these poor critters. I think I might search some of these out and sign them :) Bears, tigers, and lions should also be allowed to roam NYC at will --- Just natural critters you know - *We* should leave them be.
OTOH - Around here we kill them when they wind up in our yards. They're almost always out in the fields where they belong though....
Uh - Turkeys that is - We never see bears, tigers, or lions around here :(

Those folks might want to consider a solution used by a golf course that was overrun with Canada geese that fouled the fairways and greens (goose droppings are really nasty), stealing golf balls, and sometimes attacking golfers.

The course brought in a border collie. He had a wonderful time herding the birds, while the geese got really PO'd and left. They came back eventually, but so did the dog, PRN. I saw video of the herding and it was hilarious.

We have quite a few in my area. The Jakes are forever banging their beaks on the reflective glass of my basement windows thinking it's a rival male. The hens all love to dig and sit in the dirt holes they make in the yard to keep cool.

They're are somewhat annoying at times but mostly they are entertaining and we love havin' 'em around.

BTW, Staten Island is 400 miles from here. You know down where they support things like cuomo's (un)safe act and banning everything in sight.

These folks think we should all buy our meat in the grocery store...
where no animals get harmed in the process!

We had a problem with geese a while back. Our maintenance man heard they're terrified by laser dots. So I brought in my green one and he had a red. And he was right. If you shined the dot on the ground around them they'd get agitated and would try to attack it (kind of like a cat, but with a lot of noise). The entire flock would then fly off. They'd come back of course, but we had a person sitting at a desk with a front facing window. It became their duty to scare away the geese.

It is NY, but I'd say shoot them and eat them. They're smart birds, and as they see their friends and family getting killed off in someone's yard, they'll soon learn that the soft hearted old woman living next door is much safer.

TURKEYS IN STATEN ISLAND

Fugedabowdit, have Vinnie Bagadonuts make them an offer they can't refuse. Make it fowl vs fowl, guineas against turkeys.

I live in a small town, we have wild turkey's roaming the edge of town. They are part of living here in the U.P. If it's not deer or turkey's it's a moose, or geese sometimes it's a black bear.

If some wild life gets to be a problem the city will cull the animals and the meat is given to local food pantry's. I don't them, and they are interesting to watch. But they will destroy property and can be dangerous. when that happens it's time to relocate them or cull them
