If I take the M&P hunting I will use a proper bullet. For casual shooting and plinking I'll use anything that cycles.
Has anybody tried 200 gr bullets in their M+P or any 308 Win chambered rifle?? Reason I'm asking is I happen to have plenty of 200gr bullets on hand. I used to hunt with a hard kicking and lightweight Voere rifle factory chambered in 308 Norma Mag. A 200gr slug at nearly 3,000 FPS it was perfect Elk medicine and considerably less punishing than 220gr. If heavy slugs will work. "Work" I mean by cycling properly and delivering non-embarrassing accuracy. I may even try hard cast lead if it does not create problems in the gas system.
As I've aged I'm now a wuss, don't like recoil and thanks to all you out of staters hogging up all the coveted Arizona Elk tags. Doubt if I'll ever need the 200gr slugs for anything other than punching holes in paper. The 200 gr slugs are over-kill for desert mule deer and do not shoot flat enough for long range shooting with my 308 Savage 99.
I also have apx 11-1200 30 cal round or flat nosed 30/30 slugs. I will use them for plinking and breaking-in. I got the bullets ridiculously low priced via a company that does clean-ups after a fire. I've been sitting on them for nearly 20 years. So I need to use them up. Anybody had any good or bad results using round and flat nosed bullets in handloaded ammo used in the M&P-10??
