Beautiful weather today, no clouds, slight breeze, temperatures in the mid 60s. Not much work to do, so off to the range.

First up was my recently purchased 457. The only thing I've done to it is replace the recoil spring with a Springco unit along with a clean and lube.

It has the stock Delrin grips, unlike my other one which has the Hogue rubber grips. That gun shoots great.

I was using 230gr FMJ, I think Federal, but I don't recall.

The gun shot flawlessly, which is expected. I was a little disappointed with the accuracy, it seemed to shoot a little bit low. I don't think it's the gun, but it might be the grips. The original grips don't fit in my hands quite right. They feel a bit "loose" for lack of a better term. That might account for low shooting.

The second box was better, as I slowed down my shooting speed, concentrated on breathing control and slow trigger pull.

The question is whether to get another set of Hogues or slip on grip sleeves. The grip sleeves work on my 9mm 3rd Gens, so I'll probably go with them.

All told, I put 100 rounds through the gun without a hitch.

Oh, one other thing I noticed is that the rear sight is offset a bit to the left. Again, I don't think that was the issue since it shot low, not to the right.

The 3914NL thread got me to thinking that I haven't taken that to the range in a while. So, I grabbed that along with three matching black magazines.

Can't have non matching magazines, can we? ;)

First up, Browning Performance Target 147gr FMJ. B-27 reduced size target at 21 feet.

Not bad, the gun and ammunition did their jobs, any failings were behind the grips. I'd like to tighten the grouping up a bit, but it's certainly acceptable.

On to the next box. 124gr WWB FMJ range fodder.

Grouping not as good, but my hand might have been getting tired by now. Shoots just a bit lower than the 147gr, reinforcing my thought that the 147gr is the way to go for personal defense.

As you can see, the "head shots" were a bit low, but mostly on line. I think it would be acceptable for personal defense for someone who doesn't want the heavier recoil of the 147.

One thing I noticed with both guns is that my first shot in DA was accurate, the SA shots took more concentration. I don't know if that's an effect of the lighter trigger pull or maybe I'm not concentrating enough. Maybe breathing.

I'll have to get the pre rail 3953TSW out of the safe and give it some range time. Plus another something I'm working on and will have to wring out when it's done.

In both guns, the first couple of magazines were not where I'd want them to be. Which proves that more range time is in order. Now that ammunition is available, I'm going to try to get to the range more often. :D

Not that we need more evidence of how accurate and reliable these 3rd Gen guns are.

Forgot to mention, I finished this up with a Cuban Cohiba.

A Real Cohiba, I am totally Green with envy as those are so good. We hardly ever see them up here in the white world. Still have near 15 feet on my front lawn alone.

I have a very good neighbor. He recently went to Aruba and brought one back for me. He's done it before when he's gone to places where they are available.

To paraphrase Seinfeld, "It was real, and it was spectacular."
