On a somewhat related note, our illustrious city council convenes each meeting in honor of someone special who recently passed away. Last night, they convened in honor of slain convenience store robber, Michael Brown. In the 12 years of meetings I attended as Sgt. at Arms, I cannot remember them ever convening in honor of a slain police officer.

I have to also say WOW. I spent 22 years as a street cop and got into several fights not by my own choosing, I just had no choice. I was never cut, never shot, I did get hit a few times but nothing serious as getting cut by some scum's knife. I refuse to second guess another Officer in a fight for his life and who was forced to take a life. It is too easy to second guess what he should have done. If I had suffered the injuries he did I doubt I would be concerned about a fire at a gasoline station. Dam he is a better man than me. Well done Officer !!!

Seconded!

Heh... feel like I should mention that opinions expressed in this thread don't reflect the thinking of all Colorado residents.
Glad I'll be in AZ soon. Sheesh.

Guess they missed the X-rays showing the police officer's facial fractures, including orbital blowouts from young Mr. Brown's gentle ministrations, huh? Did anyone consider how someone like gentle, young Mr. Brown who was 35 feet away "surrendering" was two to three feet from the police officer when he finally hit the ground? I probably would have lost the Sergeant-at-Arms gig when I said, "Are you KIDDING ME?"

Somewhat related, and over on Sip's side of the country: just finished reading an article from the LAPPL web site (LAPD Protective League) titled, "No outrage against attempted murders of police officers."
lapd dot com in the "blog" if you're interested.
