I'm a revolver guy. Been carrying a 642 for quite a few years now. However, as I've mentioned in some of my posts, I've been looking for a compact 9mm as a carry option, maybe even as a replacement as my primary carry gun. Mostly, I wanted a 9mm that would be easier to carry and conceal than my beloved Beretta 92FS.
I did a bunch of research, including trying out my top choices at a rental range. The winning gun: Beretta PX4 Compact. It shot well for me, I liked the trigger action, and the controls are in the same relative positions as the 92FS I'm so familiar with.
I had decided to get the Compact Carry version and was going to put it on layway when the one gun store that had one didn't have it anymore.
After visiting a few different gun stores and doing some thinking, I decided to get the standard version and just upgrade to the low profile controls, which was the main reason I wanted the Compact Carry model (I didn't really care about the Cerakote finish or the competition trigger action, and I'm on the fence about the night sights).
I found a good deal on one and bought it earlier today (I didn't have to put it on layaway). As it turns out, it was a LE model that came with 3 mags instead of the usual two. Woohoo!
The funny part was that I had already bought some spare mags before I bought the gun because I knew I was going to get it. So now I have 6 mags, which is a good number: 3 for carry, 3 for practice.
Today I took advantage of the Beretta store's 4th of July 25% off deal (coupon code G4TH2018 if you're interested...I think it expires tomorrow) and got the single-sided low profile slide stop, the "stealth" decocker levers, and a D spring. I ended up having to order the plug for the slide stop from Brownells. I also ordered a holster and mag pouches from JM Kydex, my first kydex holster. Tomorrow I'll be ordering a set of Talon Grips since they're having a "$4 off on the 4th" promotion (The only real negative of the gun for me was the grip was a little slicker than I would've liked).
I'll probably wait until I get everything installed before I take it to the range. I'll be trying out a few different types of JHP ammo as part of my reliability protocol.
I think I may go ahead and get the Ameriglo night sights, too, though that'll have to wait 'til my next paycheck.
Hmmm...I feel like I'm forgetting something...
Oh! Pictures!
I didn't feel like spending time taking pictures tonight, so I just took this bad cell phone pic to share as a teaser. I'll be cleaning the gun tomorrow and will probably post some better pics then. I'll add a range report, too, when that happens.
