Okay, Texas, the Gov signed it - where and when will you open carry?

It's unlikely that I would open carry even if I were there.

I've stated before that one reason is to reduce the possibility of being a target of theft. Someone said that they had never heard of an open carrier being targeted for their gun. Well, I found this...
Open-Carry Guy Robbed of His Gun

It does happen.

Then there's this...
Open-Carrier Attacked in Wal-Mart; Will Never carry Openly Again

While that one doesn't say the attacker was going after the gun, the circumstances point toward the gun being the main focus of the attack.

I might open carry in my vehicle when traveling out of town to visit relatives. Or at a gas station with pay at pump machines. I'm not gonna being carrying open in Walmart or Target or the grocery store.

In that latest attack on the guy OCing, I think the media pointed toward the gun being the main focus of the attack. Last I heard, the attacker wasn't talking as far as motive.

It will make life easier when I'm there. Moving the pistol from the car box to holster always leaves a few seconds of exposure, which once got the attention of a local officer.

It has been legal here in NC for as long as I can remember. You do not need a permit of any kind. I could count the number of people I have seen open carrying on one hand and have fingers left over.

Maybe while I am driving up to my hunt lease in Llano, but that is about it, around Houston it will be concealed.

Yea open carry has been here for a long time. I don't do it and have only seen two others open carry in years with handguns and never a rifle. Why advertise something that could make you a target. I find it good though in case my shirt, jacket opens and some poor scared non believer see me carrying or on the rare occasion I forget my wallet, I don't have to worry about the law. Seems like those that want to make a statement by open carrying a AR loaded with a 100 round magazine in a airport or standing on a street corner with others hollering that it's their right, seems like they want to have open carry laws revoked by scaring non believers just because they can open carry. Or maybe they are part of the anti movement trying to scare others just so the law will be change I wouldn't put anything past the anti movement.

If you don't have a Texas CHL you might not be permitted to open carry. Read the law carefully!!!!!

I haven't yet read the whole new statute.

I wouldn't open carry in a city. It's only legal here in CA in a few small rural counties, anyway.

I might open carry in the back country for protection against bears.

The only time I've open carried so far is backpacking in Alaska in grizzly country.

In cities it attracts unnecessary attention and frightens people. I'd rather conceal carry and keep the element of surprise should I even need to defend myself.

I'm going to make this as clear as I can....HB910 "open carry" that Gov. Gregg Abbott signed into law ONLY applies to licensed CHL holders. YOU MUST HAVE A CHL TO OPEN CARRY. It is an amendment to current Concealed carry law & only applies to those who have a license. all it basically does is give the CHL holder the option to carry openly... If you carry concealed or openly without a Texas CHL, you will get arrested.

I foresee a many a handful of people getting into a lot of trouble when this law takes effect Jan 1 2016.

Correct... This is NOT a 'simple' Open Carry Law (ie: Constitutional Carry) that takes effect in Jan 2016...
This is LICENSED Open Carry (only those licensed to carry can Open Carry).

PLEASE Read It and KNOW what's Going On: 84(R) HB 910 - Enrolled version - Bill Text

Oh yeah... Don't be surprised if the Reciprocity List changes too.
It probably won't, but after Jan 1st, be sure to double-check before coming for a visit. :)

I'll stick with concealed carry but may carry OWB more often and not just during winter months

I wish OC was legal in all 50 states for one reason.

No, not for OC 100% at times but instead not to have a heart attack while leaving home to get in my car or getting out of my car to walk in to my business with fear of somebody will see and complain and I will lose my CCW status because of it...

I also wish accidental exposure law were relaxed a bit more too..

But again, I live in CA, where carrying a Guns & Ammo magazine openly may cause people around you seek therapy because of the trauma you caused them to suffer!

Another Texas Open Carry Thread. Oh, boy.
