With nothing else to do yesterday, I decided to go to the gun show in OKC. Braving the 35 mph winds, I arrived at the "gun show", paid my $12 and went inside. My first thought was that I had mistakenly entered a flea market.

I took all of 20 minutes to peruse all of the half-empty tables. I stopped at one table where I saw a well worn model 95 Winchester but it eventually became obvious that the gentleman behind the table was just too busy to speak to someone of my lowly station in life.

If you are in the market for costume jewelry or scented candles, I encourage you to attend.

The little one at Tulsa was not much better and the price was $14.00.

Even this guy was shaking his head at that price.

Gun shows used to be a big deal in Oklahoma. I remember as a little kid I was counting the days till the big Tulsa show came, now it is so crowded and over priced I wouldn't go for free. Several of the shows in OKC were six bucks to get in last year and now they are double that, and since there is a show nearly every weekend most vendors don't put out much effort.

We've had two different gunshows already collapse in our little county of 100,000, town is 10,000+. They both started off what I would call almost decent and by the second or third show they had turned into 90% Chinese plastic/junk and clothing/junk expositions and less than 10% gun related. We currently have a third one trying a three times per year show and it too is showing little progress and is only $5 admission free parking. I think people would be willing to pay a little more if the guns were there, as in GUNshow.

diamondback68- that is the fault of the promoter to allow that sort of thing in his show. if you advertise a gunshow and can't get enough dealers, then shut it down and start advertising flea markets with a few gun tables. at least then you know what you are in for.

+1
But I don't know what I'd do without the jerky, bomb shelter and siding salespersons. :)

No, gun shows ain't what they used to be, but I'd still rather spend the morning/afternoon at one than in a casino. If you've got the patience to look long and hard enough, a good deal on something can usually be found. I'm in total agreement about the jerky, fishing tackle, political petitions and especially knives. What's with all the knives? I've got a Swiss Army pocket knife and a Buck 112 folder. What more do I need?

Not to bash anyone as I like most all gun shows but Metcalf's are my least favorite.

This week's (Metcalf) was pretty weak, & that has been their trend. What I found strange was that they had (4) cashiers selling tickets, & had low attendance. Lately the other gun shows in Tulsa have had only had (1) cashier & you had to stand in line for 20 mins. because there was so many people wanting to get in. Go figure!

Insanity in pricing and the internet will kill gun shows. There is no reason to attend them anymore.
Having said that, I go to 5-6 a year and have not bought a thing in several years.
