I have a chance to buy an older stainless 442 that's like new.its not much more then a new blued 442. Do you think i would be better off with the older one for pocket carry then with the newer blued 442? I just trying to figure out which one would hold up better and less likely to have a part brake if i needed it. The stainless was made in 1993. Thanks

The older 442 isn't stainless. It's satin nickel. It has the shorter, pinned, non-magnum frame. The satin nickel finish has been known to flake and peel off. The finish on mine has been fine. The finish on the "blued" 442 isn't super durable either, but it may be more stout than the satin nickel. Also, it isn't really blued. It's anodized on the frame. Not sure what sort of coating is on the cylinder.

The newer 442s are +p rated. You can shoot +p's out of the older 442s, but not often. The older 442s do not have the hated internal lock. Some of the newer 442s have them, and some do not. The trigger on my older satin nickel 442 is nicer than the one or my wife's newer (no internal lock) black 442.

I like the satin nickel 442, because of the trigger and the "unique" factor. Functionally, there really isn't a difference unless you like to shoot a lot of +p loads. I will not buy any 442 that has the internal lock. YMMV.

I thought there was a difference in the internal parts as well? Mim or something like that.

Best bet it to get a new no lock 442 with Lifetime Warranty intact. Hard to go wrong with that package.
