Stopped by my local Cabelas today, and asked the associate if they had any handgun powder. He just responding that they only had what was in their cabinet, and pointed for me to open it myself. All they had was two 1lb. jugs of 50BMG

Sounds reasonable. The slower the burn rate powders have been the easiest to find since this current shortage began.

I picked up some Reloder-15 last week and the shop had Varget in 8lb. jugs. If mid-range powders are coming back, the fast ones can't be far behind.

Quite a bit at a local gun store I was in today.
Also some primers including Winchester Small Pistol.

A hardware store has started selling ammo. High prices but several
calibers available.

I left it all there but thought later that I should have considered buying
some of the Winchester primers.

Saw LOTS of handgun powder here last week.

Bullseye, Unique, Titegroup, Auto Comp, Trail Boss, Red Dot, Blue Dot,

Power Pistol, PB, 1#, 4# and 8# jugs.

NO CLAY'S/UNIVERSAL OR VHITAVOURI on the shelves though.

A sign was posted at a Camp Perry vendor saying that the Clay's powders wouldn't be produced until 2015.

I saw pistol powders there and at other stores in the state too.

Cabelas in Buda Texas is stocked full of ammo powder bullets primers etc.

I got a pound of CFE Pistol Tuesday. Was going to pick up another pound for another guy but they would only sell one pound at a time.
$34 out the door!! But I did want to try it.
Hodgdons reloading website shows a significant increase in velocity over HP38, the only powder I currently use. However, it takes a 50% increase in the starting load (7.4 vs. 5.0) to do that.
I fired 12 rounds at 7.5gn Wednesday and have 100 rounds to shoot today.

Been picking up powder pretty regular lately. Have 4 lbs of CFE pistol..8 lbs of CFE 223. Got primers at the Bozeman Mt gun show at just under 28 bucks..but I bought 15000 LP,SP,SR. At an auction the other night they had Win primers that sold for 130 case..No large rifle..and I bought a 8lb can of IMR 4895 for 110. As far as pistol powders I surely have 'nuff for my use..Rifle too. I have to stop buying powder.. I must have a couple hundred pounds. The powder mags are full

Anyone run across Winchester 231 for sale lately?
Jim

Jim,

W231 and HP-38, have not shown up online or in retail this entire year. Rumor has it bad batch in production, which has severly delayed production. This and Clays powder not being back in production/stores until 2015, has made reloaders re-evaluate what they will be filling their cases with in the meantime.

I've had an 8lb jug of W231 on back order with Midsouth since 3/17/14. So I would suggest looking for viable alternatives.

Same at the new Cabelas in Kentucky. Only a couple lbs. of rifle powder plus some 50 powder. Plenty of primers. Hunting season approaching and they are out of a lot of popular items. No 22 rimfire and bullet choices were limited or none in stock. Wasted a 60 mile round trip yesterday just to come home empty handed. Frustrating!

Same story on the other coast. Couple of weeks ago I traded a guy 2# of CFE Pistol for 2# of HP38 but I have no idea how long he had that powder.

The Cabelas in Owatonna Minnesota had no .22 rimfire, but did have a few pounds of rifle powder (IMR3031, 4064 & 4895). All the primers you could want at $45/1k.

The Bass Pro near me varies from day to day, but little in the way of any powders I use.
