Just heard this old Tom T. Hall song on the radio...

Still makes me cry. One of my father's favorite songs.

Any of y'all recall any songs that stir up a tear or feeling?

Well, if they do....it's interesting that they are always the older ones, yeah?
None of this tripe they serve up today for the "in-crowd" can ever come close to what we've already bonded our memories to. Ever.
All the best to you and your's in this season.

Jake

I love "Old Dogs,etc.".My fathers favorite song was George Jones's "The Grand Tour".My father died in 1979.:( My mother always sang "Danny Boy" when i was growing up.Heard it yesterday, and it made me think of her.She died in 1981.:(

1. Star Spangled Banner

2. Taps (always worse at a funeral)

3. Roses For Mama - C.W. McCall

4. Teddy Bear - Red Sovine

5. I'm Already Home - Tim McGraw

I haven't heard it in decades, but "Old Rivers" by Walter Brennan made for a lot of lumps in a lot of throats. I recall hearing that there weren't many dry eyes in the recording studio when he made it. It's not so much a "song" as a recitation.

Just listened to it & it's still lumpy.

Homer and Jethro's "Girl From Possum Hollow" I used to laugh so hard at some of their songs, I'd cry.

Tom T. Hall, wow my uncle was supposed to have been good friends with him when they were younger.

In answer to your question, yes, but I can't remember most of their titles. My wife absolutely forbids me to listen to Bluegrass music and I haven't heard them in a long time.

" The Car" by Jeff Carson, and "Daddy never was the Cadillac kind" by Confederate Railroad. If you haven't figured it out, Dad passed away almost 16 yrs ago. I just hunted with his 97 Winchester the other day, felt like he was there.
The songs get to me, but he loved poetry. He read "The shooting of Dan McGrew" by Robert Service to me when I was a kid abut 35 yrs ago. I have that poem memorized.
"A bunch of the boys were whooping it up in the Malamute saloon.............."

"I Remember the Day that Clayton Delaney Died", and "Faster Horses", also by Tom T. Hall.

Buck

"That's My Job" by Conway Twitty

Everything done by Red Sovine

"Sunday Morning Coming Down" by Johnny Cash

"Honey" and "Butterfly for Bucky" by Bobby Goldsboro.

Thank the Lord for good music.....

Wow, you guys like some great music. I got lost on You-tube the other night listening to anything from the Rat-pack to Brad Paisley's "Find yourself". Have any of you listened to Don Williams-Good ol' boys lately? My Mom used to sing when I was younger and sang songs from Connie Francis and Barbara Fairchild (and many others). Tom T. Hall and the Statler Brothers were favorites of mine. And what about Bobby Goldsboro?? Then there is Simon and Garfunkel, Damn!! Another night shot to hell on the 'puter listening to and recording great music.............Sprefix-------Do yourselves a favor and you-tube Eva Cassidy--------------This Angel died at 37 years of age from cancer but graced the earth with her voice while she was here. Here is a sample.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYyQcQSqpbI

I must admit, I like Red Sovine too...nearly all of his songs.
I'm a fan of Johnny Horton too, Way Up North I've always liked- I wish he'd a lived to be an old man.

Country music will never have the class that it once did.
