I use to shoot handguns quite a bit and would like to get into casual target shooting again. My eyes no longer focus at sight distance so I bit the bullet, so to speak, and purchased a pair of "shooting glasses" with my off eye (left) focused for distance and the master eye (right) focused at sight distance. Well I tried shooting my model 41 this afternoon and things didn't go very well. I get two sight pictures, one with a set of sights and a very blurring thing in the distance and another with a crisp picture of the target but no sights. Unfortunately neither seems to get me on the target. Has anyone else had any luck with this setup? I'm thinking I'm going to have to do a red dot sight but my guns are all old and are not drilled and tapped for such.

Are you sure the focal length is correct for the right eye? The eye Doc or the grinder people messed up 3 pair in a row on me. And is the focal point of the lense in the right place for how you hold your head when shooting. It helps if your Eye Doc is a shooter, ever from a different discipline, he'll understand your needs, mine was a schmuck!!! Ivan

I really don't know much about glasses , but I recently had my exam and had a new set of glasses made that were specified for distance only. Just looking thru them over sights at a 25yd target tells me I'm gonna like them.:D

Red dot sight. I'm out of competition without one. Since my cataract surgery, and subsequent laser treatment, I can see the front sight better than I have been able to for the past 10+ years, but still not as good as with a red dot. Nothing to line up just put the dot on the target and shoot.

Thanks for the replies. I think there are a few red dot sights in my future ...

That's been my answer to the same problem, and I've been very pleased with Burris FastFire red-dots on a couple of .22s --- they're fairly small, very light, and can use a large variety of mounting options, some of which may fit your handguns. Good Luck!
