Hi, I’m new to this forum but do not have any expertise about older S&W revolvers. I have an early model serial #14077 that has only 4 screws but no screw in front of trigger guard. 5 inch barrel and rounded plastic or rubber grips. Any idea for year manufactured?

Sorry should have stated 38 special cog on left side of barrel with no ejector shroud

Looks similar to this except not nickel

Yes, the picture does show a Model of 1899, the first K-Frame S&W revolver. Be careful with it, as if some component breaks, replacing it is well nigh impossible. Missing extractor rod knobs are common, so do not lose yours. Only about 20K were made. Probably best not to fire it.

Welcome! I don't not know why you should not shoot it? They are perfectly capable of handling any standard 38 Special loads. Of course any gun can break a part, but I have shot all my Model 1899s, some regularly, and never had a single problem. Your serial number should indicate that the revolver was shipped in 1902.
