Howdy , I have a old K-frame with a sticky action , jumps a cylinder double action , I believe it gummed up with old oil and gunk, It has two frozen screws on the side plate, is there a liquid I can wash out the action with out ruining the blueing ??
And doesn't smell too bad for too long ??
Many thanks, robbt

can you soak the frozen screws in heavy kroil overnight.

then using the correct screwdriver tip, give is a tap+ or two+++ with a mallet to try and break the "freeze" and give it a turn.

make sure you block the frame to protect and to absorb the taps+++ on the screws.

I would think internal dried gunk needs scrubbing.

I had an old model 15 that the trigger stop screw would not move. I ran kroil, tapped on it using the correct size brownells tip and it came out.

good luck

Just as a thought, I inherited a Colt Woodsman, bought in 1947, that
was "gummy". Not knowing anything about proper cleaning except the
gear we had in service, I removed the stocks and soaked it overnight in kerosene. I figured the kerosene would leave an oily residue even if the
cleaning didn't help. Sloshed it around a lot, then blew it dry at a gas station.
It's been functioning just fine for 25 years.
*There was no way that I was about to dismantle that gun, with no
background except as an industrial mechanic.
I've gotta get some of that Kroil. TACC1

I picked up a Mdl 19-4 2.5" a few years ago that was so gummed up the ejector rod, when pushed to eject, would move in slow motion going in and double slow motion coming out under spring pressure. It also had the frozen screw problem. I soaked it in bowl of penetrating oil for three days after removing the grips, and blew it out with non-chlorinated brake cleaner. Not a problem since then and the penetrating oil lossened up the frozen side plate screw allowing me to get to the guts.
