I was going through some of my old magazines tonight. I love how nice some of the old cover art used to be, much nicer than anything out there now except for maybe Fur-Fish-Game.

This is the April 1936 American Rifleman where Douglas Wesson first took the new .357 Magnum cartridge hunting for big game.

Elmer Keith in his test of the .357 Magnum in 1935.

Skeeter Skelton (one of his early articles penned under Allen Skelton)

Bill Jordan in the one place he was rarely seen, behind a desk.

Well now days most magazines have picture of a Glock or an AR on the front and that's what most of the articles are about. It's a little hard to find a good picture to go along with most of those articles. Ahhh....progress.

And the AR (in which I have no interest anyway) will have sprouted various strange growths to render it more <shudder!> "tactical". I've come to loathe that word. Increasingly it means "tarted up with accessories you're unlikely to need".

Sorry, I'm being a curmudgeon again.

Thanks for showing those old covers--they took me back to some good times.
