:):)This is a picture at La Pampa province in Argentina, this picture is a very old one ,from 1928, in the picture ,you can see my father 13 years old, my aunt and my grandmother; she was a primary school headmaster in a Santa Rosa nearby institution.
In those days the robbery, in special ,in rural areas was a great problem, so people armed themselves for self protection and to protect their family and prorerty as well.
As I can see my grandmother wears a belt holster with a huge .38 Special that might be a 6" or longer barrel S&W (to my knowledge she owned in those days a .38 Special, a .44 Special and a Browning .32 ACP pistol).
Now I know that handguns for me are a long family heritage!!!!, thats why I like them so much!!!....:):)

Robert - I took your picture and "cleaned it up" a little. It makes the gun look like it may be longer than 6". Best I could do with the low res pic.

It must have been some wild times in those days.

:):)Thank you for "cleaning" the picture, yes, as you say it looks to me more than 6" barrel, its a very big handgun!!!..
For sure, they were very wild times in the "Pampas".. In this picture the car they owned does not appear, they must have driven the family car to this place a "caldén shade"(caldén is a typical tree from the Pampas) my father learned to drive a car at that time my grandmother´s "Whippet" !!!!....:):)

I have posted the first image before, but love the old pictures of families and ancestors AND guns. My grandfather is the boy (born in 1890) in the picture and the adults are an assortment of great-aunts and great-uncles, and their friends with some Killer Winchesters (no pun intended). One of my great-aunts was a taxidermist as well!

So, as the Roberto proves, women could tote some fine firearms as well as men back in the day.

Cool pic!
I wish the gun was clearer. I can't tell if it's an S&W or a squirt gun from that pic, and I'm pretty good at "photo interpretation". ;)
Judging the barrel length of a holstered gun is about impossible unless the muzzle of the gun is visible. Even then, it can be problematic.

Can you guys give me the barrel lengths on these two old M&Ps, please?

It is possible that grandmother may have been carrying a 7 1/2" .44 Special Triple Lock. I know not of any other 1928 or older S&W that had a barrel longer than 6 1/2".

:)Yes Sir ideed, it might be a Triple Lock .44 Special with 71/2" barrel!!!!...
I am positivley sure that she owned a long barreled S&W .44 Special revolver!!!!..:)

:):)Nowadays women had lost the interest for guns, it might be because they feel protected by their husbands that have guns and also a well done job by law enforcement agencies!!, also the women of bygone days must harvest food for their family helping their husband (hunting), this was ideed a deed in rural areas (Country families),nevertheless today, we , the guns lovers, dont seem to worry much about teaching young women and boys learning to shoot and handle a rifle or a handgun!!!...( It might be not quite our case, but generaly speaking for other people it is).....:):)

glowe, any idea what the white spots/ stickers signify on the right side of the Winchester stocks?
