My new truck has sirrus radio and I have the old time radio shows on it, I listen to Johnny Dollar and gun smoke and the shadow plus many more. I can remember Terry and the pirates, Jack Armstrong and his friend Vic Hardy but they are not on sirrus. They are still good shows. Jeff

And as another thread brought up, you can download most if not all here. https://archive.org/ been driving me crazy downloading them, now I need to put them on a cd. I have Sirus radio also but I can listen to what program I want when I want from the site or one of my downloads.

Late 60s early 70s 102.7 WNEW-FM NY. Alison Steele "The Nightbird"

Best radio voice ever spinning up the best album oriented rock ever. It just didn't get any better than an Alison Steele intro to "Riders on the Storm".

"Mr. Keene, Tracer Of Lost Persons" (which Bob & Ray parodied as "Mr. Trace, Keener That Most Persons")

The original version of "Gunsmoke", with William Conrad as Matt Dillon

"Boston Blackie"

"Lux Radio Theater"

"Captain Midnight"

"Fibber McGee And Molly"

"The Life Of Riley"

"Henry Aldrich"

Fred Allen's wonderful show

"The Bell Telephone Hour"

"Doctor Christian"

"Don McNeil's Breakfast Club"

Arthur Godfrey

"Suspense"

Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy

"Grand Central Station"

"The Firestone Hour"

"The Great Gildersleeve"

"One Man's Family"

I remember a lot of the radio shows from the 50s that mom played while us little kids were growing up. Just about everything I remember has been covered, but the one I most enjoy is the newer version of the old variety shows: The Prairie Home Companion.

I don't believe anyone mentioned any of my favorites:

Dragnet, Phillip Marlowe, Sam Spade, The Falcon, Charlie Chan, & Have Gun Will Travel.

Old radio drama on Fraiser

If you like the old radio dramas, try to catch the episode of Fraiser where Dr. Crane wants to recreate the old style with sound effects etc.

Well done spoof.

Many of those I remember well and some even made it to television. A few i remember very fondly are:
.Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy
.Suspense
.Arthur Godfrey
.Fred Allen
.Henry Aldrich
.Fibber McGee and Molly
.The Life Of Riley
.Jack Benny
.Amos n Andy
.Sky King
.The Lone Ranger
.Terry and the Pirates

Recalling these wonderful old radio programs was a very pleasant trip back to my child hood. Thanks guys!

Edit to add: I remember a tv show from the very early days called December Bride with Harry Morgan and Spring Byington. Am I imagining things or wasn't that a radio program to begin with?

Radio shows were no more when I was growing up but KMOX is STL had a Saturday morning comedy show and I remember the playing

THE BICKERSONS

very funny with Don Ameche and Frances Langford.

other than that A Prairie Home Companion is great.

I was late.....

I was too late for these shows but I heard some 'reruns' , particularly 'Gunsmoke' and generic radio dramas, one that I remember about catching moonshiners. That stuff was GREAT!

Sky Kings first "Songbird" was a Cessna bamboo bomber or a UC 78 and then a straight tail 310 Cessna and Clipper flew a Cessna 120 or a 140. Jeff

Nice list, and Gunsmoke was on the radio years before it was on TV. Id have loved to have listened to those.

PS, on Nr 19--I wonder if you meant: Blackhawk? I loved the comic book--both series.

Edit again, I see several above beat me on mentioning Gunsmoke.

BTW, some of the names the Germans gave to Gunsmoke are: Smoking Colts (or and) Rauchen von der Pistolen.

I never watched the show when it first ran, but been catching up on it now. Same with Becker. I havent laughed so much in awhile as with those two shows.
