An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of. He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out.

The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks. Curious I pinned a note to his collar: 'I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.'

The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar: 'He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 - he's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?'

Great way to start the day! Thanks for sharing that story........we need more of this.

My best friend lived next door to me. They had 3 various dogs. Of course, we were always doing favors for each other and had keys to each others houses. They went on vacation and I was suppose to feed their dogs that had run of the house and back yard. One day I opened the front door and one ran out between my legs and I had to cruise the neighborhood to find him. I found him playing with some real young kids a couple blocks away. I went over and picked him up. I did notice the kids kind of looked at me amazed but none said anything. Went back, threw him in the house and the other two immediately attacked him! Oh oh! Grabbed him up, walked out the house and a identical looking dog walked up! Took the dog back to the kids, and scratched out! Wonder what they told their ma!

Good little story there, Eagle. It made me think of my last Saint. I was told every morning he used to go along to four or five houses, from neighbor to neighbor, begging for handouts and generally just being friendly. Unfortunately, his master died of cancer and the man's wife didn't think she could "handle" him. My family adopted him and took him home, two towns away. Several months later I heard from the man who facilitated the adoption that all the neighbor ladies were rather blue over the deal and missed him. (Probably more than his master.) He was everyone's friend - never met a human he didn't like.

Thirty od years ago (some odder than others) I worked at a security company that, amoung other things, placed large, aggessive dogs into fenced areas like car lots to discourage intruders. One of our dogs was a Giant Schnauser name Jack. Because of the fines the city would level on the company if any of the dogs were unrestrained, anytime one would get out of it's assigned lot all personnel would be called out to find it. Any time Jack got out you just went to the closest place that had kids and Jack would be there playing with the kids. Inside the fence he was 160 pounds of bad news, outside he was a frustrated lap dog!

What an adorable dog. I love that breed. I have my third Golden and each one has been a hoot to own. They are notorious for stealing peoples hearts.
