My M&P 9 full size has a birthday of early October 2012. It has a one dimple barrel, BUT has a 1:18.75 barrel twist rate. Is it worth it to get a new factory barrel with 1:10 twist rate? I plan on shooting standard 115 grain and 124 grain rounds.

From what I have been reading, the barrels with the dimples have the newest 1/10 twist. Some have 2 dimples. My 9c has 2 dimples and my 2 year older FS 9 does not. My 9c seems to be more accurate. I shoot 115 gr fmj. I hope to acquire a FS newer barrel to see if there really is a difference.
The top pic is older, bottom is newer.

Maybe I am blind, I only see one dimple on your 9c barrel. My 9c was born this year and only has one dimple.

That is not my barrel. The pic came from MSW web sight. They did a review on the newest revisions on the M&P9. These are my barrels.

^^This. Twist rate is not the issue. Fit and lockup timing are the issues. But, your gun may be fine. Shoot it first and find out. I have two that I purchased at the same time in early 2012. One is a 2-3" gun, the other is about to go back to Smith because it only shoots 6-8" groups. Groups also get progressively worse with heavier ammo, which is another sign of a lock timing issue.

Yes, mine was made in October 2012, has one dimple and the "newer" design (see below), and S&W told me it was the 1:18.75" twist. I'm taking it to the range next week, but the lockup appears to be really tight. I also have an "H" on my trigger bar.

I HAVE ONE WITH THE NEWER BARREL SQUARE TYPE FRONT AND NO DIMPLE MARK . AND ITS A DEC 2012 L/E GUN . I ORDERED A EXTRA BARREL FROM GRANT AT G/r TAC AND HAD 1 DIMPLE THEY SAID IT WAS THE NEWER TYPE I WANTED THE 2 DIMPLE BUT KEPT IT ANYWAY.

WHY ARE YOU YELLING?!?! Why do you want 2 dimple barrel? I did aquire a new twist barrel From G&R. It had no dimples. It does have the new twist. 1 dimple 2 dimples no dimples on newer barrels. They are all the same. From what I hear and read, the dimples are there for machine identification when they are made. Of course I heard the same about the dimples stating the new twist. That conclusion has since been resolved.

To be honest, I never noticed if I have one, two or no dots on my barrel, all I DO know is that my 9c shoots VERY tight groups from a rest (sub 2" 25 rounds @ 15 feet). Basically, the gun shoots much better than I do. I bought mine in late 2013/early 2014 and I haven't checked the build date (heaven forbid !!!)

The dimple is a hardness check . Not all get it some may be double checked .
