Made one last purchase for 2022 to say good riddance to this horrible year and to try to end it on a positive note.
Since 1980 or '81 when my dad and I walked into Wolffes Gunshop and I saw my first 586 and 686 Ive wanted one and I have since actually aquired a 686 but my favorite by a large margin is the 586, I much prefer blued steel to stainless.
Well, I got one, a 4"no dash 586 will soon be mine and for a price I never would have dreamed possible. I just hope that its what he told me it was. However, and I never would have bought it without this, the seller listed it with a 3 day inspection period. Id never buy a gun from any auction site without one.
His listing had not-so-good pics but the old guy called me and after talking with him I feel pretty good about it. He and I talked for about an hour and we kind of hit it off as it were and he has sold a bunch of stuff lately that everyone seems to be real pleased with so... He told me that due to his age he is selling alot of his stuff because his wife would have no idea of the values of his collection. So like I said I feel good about it, and if Im not I do have the option of returning it. I doubt I will.
He described every defect to me and all are acceptable and almost expected on something this old but he told me that other than the wear mark on the yoke/crane and the damaged diamond on the grip he says its a new gun. I see no wear mark from the center pin on the recoil sheild and I didnt see a turn line either.
As to the gun its just your standard 4" 586 no dash but its beautiful and its mine. Old news to most here but Ive never owned one.
Cant wait to take delivery. What a great way to end this year.

Hard to beat a vintage 586 4" in great condition. They are getting harder to find by the day. At least a little wear on it is expected on most of them that are that old. I've had several in the past, both 4" and 6" but currently don't own one. But I do have 2 4" 686's, a 4" 1998 Mountain Gun and a 4" 686-4. He probably didn't shoot it much and maybe not at all. You won't be disappointed in the way it handles and shoots. Post pictures of that bad boy when you get it.

Had several S/W 586 revolvers over the years. All have been great guns, and very good shooters. Enjoy !!

Congrats. I picked up a beautiful 686 no dash a couple years ago.

Congrats on your new purchase. Some of the best deals I have ever ran across required me to have just a bit of faith. An older gentleman who isn't skilled at digital photography sounds promising in the sense that it seems to match the scenario of an older man selling while he is still able to do so. In my experience, people selling under such circumstances are usually just hoping to save their family members the hassle of disposing of items, and wanting to ensure that they receive fair value for them. They often are willing to sell at very good prices, they just don't want to give things away. Most often, it seems that they are just happy to see their guns go to a person who truly appreciates them rather than to someone looking to make a buck.

I hope that your new revolver turns out to be a real gem, and that it provides you many years of service.

Congratulations on that great find, and Happy New Year!

Yeah, the old fella literally told me he was selling because his wife really doesnt kniw how much money hes sitting on. I dont know if hes is having some health issues that pose an imminent risk or what but he has or had over 75 handguns to sell, he gave me a brief rundown of his "ledger" and man, he has some nice and some quite valuable ones! Some he has already sold and others hes selling. We talked for quite awhile. I had already missed all except for one of his 44Specials, a 696 which I already own.
He is fully aware of what his firearms are worth but he said he starts all of his listings low and lets the market dictate the value, he knows the worth but isnt trying to get rich off of them, but he said he doesnt want to just give them away either.

I do own a pre-lock 4" 686+ but the blued steel 586's have always, always had my eye, blued steel and wood has a very timeless appeal to me. And I have the 3" 696, an L frame too but a 44Spl and SS so a 586 has always been a serious "want".

Im exceted to say the least and am sending out the payment tomorrow to get this thing rolling.
