I never see good deals at my local Cabela’s but I had a gift card from my birthday last month so stopped by today. Was gonna get some shirts when I decided to wander into the gun library. Nothing really appealed until I looked in the last case on my way out. There on the bottom shelf was a nice 4” 66-2 with smooth targets-not sure if they’re factory but they fit great, no box etc. It’s a little dirty but has very nice timing/lockup.
After the gift card I was under $600. Now just doing the stupid Colorado waiting period.

AZB prefix so I’m guessing 1988 going by the 4th edition of SCSW.

Wow! What's wrong with it?

Besides the Pachmayer grips, absolutely nothing, not even an obvious turn line. With vet discount and points, I paid $586 OTD. Two weeks earlier, at a show, I traded into this similarly conditioned 2.5” 19-7 for $545.

The 19s and 66s are splendid revolvers IMHO. I've had several, but now only the one 66 I carried for several years back in the '70s. Mine was manufactured in '72. I had it overhauled at S&W back in '80; not many original parts left now. It's led an easy life since the overhaul. I started carrying an L-Frame soon after the 66 was returned from S&W..

I have a 2-1/2", 3", 4" (NIB) and 6" Model 66. There never was a 8-3/8", was there?
OP's looks very nice and at a great price, IMO. And I assume those smooth grips have value also. They look great.

How many magnum rounds can you run through those before it has to be rebuilt?

More than I’ll ever try. Seriously I don’t enjoy shooting magnums much, have a 686 for that but I have it sighted in for them for when it’ll join me camping/hiking.

One. Or maybe 10. One hundred, perhaps? A thousand is certainly possible as is 10,000. Your mileage will vary, especially if you shoot full power 125 grain loads. The original intent of the K-frame 357 was a revolver that would see mostly 38 Special loads and 357 loads for carry and familiarization only. Plus, the light weight bullet 357 loads were not around when the K-frame 357 was introduced, so S&W had no way of knowing the abuse the forcing cone would be taking with law enforcement work in the 1970's.

Nice find.

I came into an excellent condition 4" 1980 66-1 for $599 a few months ago from my local shop. And than last month, a like condition 4" 1972 19-3 with original grips for $699. Not sure if I want to keep both.
