Only 2 1/2 inch 3rd mod S&W 38 da?

In all my books on S&W Ive never seen a two and a half inch of the antique 38 double action mentioned. I have the 38 safety and the 32 da and safety in shorter than Standard barrels. But first time I ever saw a 38da. This one is not shortened and the address rolls up on the barrel flat. Matching serials. Any coments welcome

Great looking revolver Paul. Two and a half Double Action gun is a rare bird. Yours is the first one I have seen.

Here is information on a two and a half 38 SH I have. It was a special order 4th model sent to an individual.

Barrel stamp

Very nice.
I'm amazed at how the factory stamped the barrel like that. There is a hump (uneven area) before the top-strap. Yet the stamp is totally even and the depth of the stamp is the same. Marks example the factory "stopped" the roll die right at the hump location.

Fenomenal. So theres others. I did not see this one on RIA. Amazing how it always turns up special orders. Im collecting the different barrel lengts. Do you have a list?

For the Safety Hammerless 38 that I have seen or heard about:
1 3/8, 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2, 3 1/4, 4, 5, 6.
Have never seen the 1 3/8" gum but have seen all the others

For the Double Action 38:
2, 2 1/2, 3 1/4, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10.
I may have seen the 2" version but I it would have been before I started tracking the guns. Have seen a number of the Double Action 32's with a 2" barrel.

With that barrel stamping it sure looks factory. Is there a letter verifying the barrel length? That would be the cat's meow.

I think this is the only known SA (2nd Model) .38 with a factory 2 inch barrell.
