Well, HE MADE IT!!! My grandson Jason is now a Marine! The presentation of the colors and the graduation ceremony were particularly touching today, as the whole theme was pointed toward the celebration of the Marine Corps Birthday tomorrow. The wind was whipping through just enough to have Old Glory snapping above the graduating company. They also brought their baby bulldog out (4 or 5 months I think) and honored her. She is officially a corporal (outranking my grandson!). All in all an amazing day!

Old bear, there is no doubt that his looks don't come from me! I was talking with him about range day and his rifle. He said a bunch of folks asked him what he named it. He wondered what the heck they were talking about! Name a rifle? He also said he was amazed at what a loose rattle trap the thing was. Completely worn out from the sounds of it. M16A2, and you know they haven't been buying those for a while! He said the top end moved around so much it was hard to keep his sight picture!

Looks like the Corps has picked another winner.
Must be some of that Overcome & Adapt working with
a loose rifle.
Just found out today, that a co-worker is a former
Marine, as is a company tech-rep. My first 20 years out
of service, I never ran into any.
Your grandson has the look and bearing. There's another
one of the "good guys". Tell him I'm glad he's made it.

A10, you definitely have the right to be one proud grandpa. Not every family is blessed to have a Marine in their number. Yes, it really is something special. My congratulations to that fine looking squared away
young man. What a bonus, he graduated on the weekend of the 237th
birthday of the Corps. Happy Birthday to your young Marine and to the
Corps. May God continue to bless him and the United States Marine Corps.

Semper Fi, to you and your grandson! A great accomplishment for a young man that will last a lifetime in his mind and soul. I still remember my drill instructors names from 42 years ago, and my M-14 rifle's name was Charlene.
May God bless him and all of our troops serving our country this Marine Corps Birthday and Veteran's Day weekend.

Now that is some great pictures and I am glad the weather cooperated. Now he is in, remind him he can not get his retirement papers until the Marines have their 257th birthday. What occupation skill will he be learning? My nephew joined to learn how to fix computers, DI came in and said "All your computer fix it guys are now tankers because the class was full"!!!

He decided he just strictly wanted infantry when he signed up, but yesterday when we were talking he said "I think that was an immature decision." He would love to do something with strategic planning, and he has the head for it. He comes back for infantry school at Pendelton in 10 days and will be working on changing his MOS.

Oh, and he missed top marksman by 9 points....no doubt it was "the round of which we shall not speak......and will never be found!"

Tennnnnnnnnnnnnn HUT!

We salute you and Jason! Very proud for you! He makes my young-person outlook a bit brighter for our future!

Side Note: I've shot expert in LEO circles most of my adult life. Can't count the times I've lost a trophy because I had too many to count in the center. Range Officers can be tough if they want to.

But I know what I shot and that's really all that counts.

Congratulations and a tip of the ol Stetson to you and your family. You raised a good'n.
Itchy and I had the honor of watching a class graduate and then attending the Birthday Ball last year at Camp Pendleton with my Son and his wife.

I was swolled up like a poisoned pup with pride at being allowed to be among such fine young folks.

They are an impressive bunch, aren't they, Iggy? Watching close order drill, listening to the incredibly talented Marine Corps Band (I'd never heard anyone play jazz piccolo before!), just makes ya proud!
