Greetings! I am toying with the idea of purchasing a Shield 40 4" Performance Center pistol, with the idea of also getting a 4" barrel chambered for the 357 Sig cartridge.

Note: I can appreciate that neither the 40 S&W cartridge nor the 357 Sig cartridge are all that popular these days, but I do have the ability to cast and reload for both of these cartridges. Plus, I have a good supply of once fired brass for both of these rounds. Looking for a setup similar to my Sig P229 in 40/357.

Can anyone that might have this pistol be able to share some insight?

Also, would a holster for a Shield Plus 4" accommodate a 4" Shield 40?

As always, thanks in advance for your assistance!

3.1"

I cannot vouch for the 4", but the 3.1" is very manageable with a good grip. I imagine the 4" would be fantastic to shoot. The feed ramp is a little steep on the conversion barrel so the first round hangs up sometimes, but otherwise it feeds fine. .357sig out of the short barrel makes some crazy fireballs with most of the rounds I've tried through it, and I don't even have the ports on that barrel. It's a very fun gun to shoot at the farm at night. Overall would recommend.

Regarding the holsters, mine fits in my buddy's LLOD shield plus holster so I imagine the 4" would fit in the same length shield plus holster.

My first Shield purchased in 2014 was a Shield 40s&w 3" standard. Recoil was an issue at all for me. I wish I still had that gun.

As far as holsters go, all Shields use the same holster except for the Shield 45acp. The 4" Shield in 40s&w can use the same holster as any open bottom Shield 3.1" or 4" 9mm or 40s&w holster.

I have two 2.0 compact .40s (one 4" barrel and one 3.5" barrel) and a 2.0 Shield .40 (3.1" barrel). I have 357Sig conversion barrels for all three of them. Drop in the new barrel and shoot. That's the only required change. The 40 cal mag carries the 357Sig rounds.

I also own a 2.0 compact 9mm (4") and a 2.0 Shield 9mm (4"). The holster for my .40 cal compacts also works with my 9mm compacts. Holster for my .40cal Shield works with my 9mm Shield. - fewer needed holsters.

I use a single holster for both my 3.1" Shield and my 4" Shield. And a single holster for all three of my compacts. The result? Less money tied up in holsters, and much more tied up in ammo. Life is good.

I'm npot a shield fan sothis choice is all YOU and should not be about what we think ! I have a 11years old m&p full size 4.25 that one of my primary carry handguns along with a lw commander in 45 . But I also have a M&P 2.0 5" PC 40sw thats gets some carry time . Both 40sw 's have 20lb recoil sprin gs in them . To me today a 4" compact might make for a better 40sw CC option And as for the 357siggly cartridge ,, Well I carry mainly a Underwood 155gr gd 40sw load that makes more energy than any 357siggly can and just over 1300 fps.

Now make up your own mined what to buy.
