i noticed that the "groups" thread has been closed. I was wanting to ask everyone in the forum to look over the results i had and give me a their opinion on what ammo they would use if put in my shoes. thanks guys any feedback will be appreciated.

Most (all?) of your targets had 6 bulls on them. Measure the max group size for each of the 6 bulls on a target, add them together, and divide by six. Do that for each target (brand of ammo) you shot. The numbers will tell you which which ammo yielded the best average group size.

What ammo cycles best/worst in your rifle? I mean... even if Rem GB consistently produced half-inch groups with my rifle it would not be worth the effort to have to stop every few rounds to clear the jam.

What ammo best fits your intended use? A particular match ammo may produce great groups on paper, but if you're after small game then a bullet with superior expansion may be more important. If you like shooting steel or general plinking at cans and bottles then what cycles well and is cheap may be the best fit.

The question is: What ammo does everything well enough to fit your foot and budget, and among those which is best?

i decided to go with the aguila match rifle ammo, mostly due to the availability of getting it. I felt like it performed as good as any other and isn't expensive. Any hunting that I do with this rifle will be squirrels and thats about it, and as long as you hit them in the head this ammo will be fine. My brick will be here tomorrow. I'll have a post on the results.

I got to thinking on the old thread, that what we need is a standard target(s) we can all use to shoot for groups with. That way when we post them, we all know what we are looking at. One is a general sight in target with diamond bulls on a 1/2" grid. The other one is a copy of a NRA 50 ft rifle target (A-36 if I remember right). It's a match target where the 10 ring is a single dot. If anyone is interested, I'll get them converted from the cad file to a pdf and get them posted to start a new accuracy thread.

in fact my brick of ammo is going to be here tomorrow i would love to get the targets tonight so i could fill them full of holes tomorrow. once again man, great idea on a great way we can all compare our results.

Regarding the locked thread, having the targets shot at the same distance would seem to be more important than using the same target.

I agree that having a standard target can be helpful when comparing one to another.....but when one is shot at 50 or 75 feet and another is at 50 yards, comparing them becomes more of a challenge even though the targets are identical.

I agree, we should standardize the range for the sake of comparison. The trick is deciding what range.

Part of me says 50 ft, because that's what the indoor ranges in my area provide. It's too damn cold out to go to the outdoor range (less than 10 degrees F high for the day).

But I think the best representation of accuracy for a 22lr is 50 yards. Not to mention, it makes the MOA calculation a little easier.

Ya'll are high-dollar shooters. I use 2 inch stickies on scrap paper. But... I guess I can budget this one time.

Yes, 50 yards will yield more readable results for ammo comparison.

Maybe Thomas can set up two threads.

1. 50ft target pics only.
2. 50yd target pics only.

The 'Group' thread (which was a great idea) that got blocked by the Mods was littered with so many issues... maybe Thomas can set up something in the Title that helps to keep things more 'on target'.

Fifty feet and fifty yards sounds good.

It would also help, in my opinion, if a notation was made as to if an optic was used (maybe that was already mentioned). It is a challenge when your red dot is bigger than the bullseye.

That should work just fine....I think it will make for better exchange of info with everyone in the thread comparing their apples....while the oranges are in another thread.

I'm going to be doing some shooting tomorrow I'm gonna try out some shooting at 50 feet, I haven't ever done this before. I plan on using this target posted by Thomas: http://www.thisismygun.com/targets/1-inch-zero.pdf Should I shoot 10 round groups at each of these? or one shot at each? Just wondering what you guys would be most interested in seeing. In my own personal opinion I think 5 shot groups at these at such a close distance would be pretty good. All you guys just let me know what you think.

10 rounds, compared to 5, give a statistically better average, in my opinion. I will be doing 10 shot groups for my targets.
