Optics For M&P15T

Hi, I have the M&P 15T with an EoTech 511.65A holosite. After sighting it in, I have no problem putting the red dot on targets out to 500yds and hitting the spot.

There is also a scope by leupold (sp?) specifically made for the AR-15. I forget what exactly it is called, but its designed with the .223 round in mind so it takes the guess work out of targeting. A buddy has one on his and its very nice. It was around $300.

Hope that helps. Have fun with the rifle.

I have two M&P's, one with an Eotach 512.A651 and the other with an Aimpoint Comp M. Out to 50 yards, I like the Eotach but past that is where the Aimpoint shines so it really depends on what type of shooting you plan to do. Word of advice is to buy quality up front so you don't end up with a box full of Eotach or AImpoint "ripoffs". Lot's of options so do your homework and spend wisely!!

Thanks guys. I have an Eotech 512 on my ORC which I really like, and was toying with the idea of getting a second one, but will look into the Aimpoint and Leupold a little further.

BTW what's the difference between the 511 and the 512?

Just received the recent Cabelas ad in the mail. They have the Leupold MARK AR tactical Scope on sale for $279.99. It really is a nice scope and simple to use.

I did some research on that Leupold scope. It seems to be really good. Gunblast did a real nice review on it. There are actually two versions of the less expensive Mark 3. There's the basic one for around 300, and an upgraded one with mil reticle for about 350. I also understand there's a Mark 4 version which is quite a bit more expensive.

What is your price range? The Aimpoint ML3 and H1 are what I am looking at buying. I do not need night vision capability or I would look at the M3 or T1.

Take a look at a 1 X 4 scope such as a Trijcon,Leupold, Burris, Weaver, and Nightforce to name a few. Save time and money and put it in a Larue scope mount.

I carried an Aimpoint on a M4 while in Iraq. Good sturdy unit, easy to sight in and use. I have an EOTech 511 on my personal M4 (Bushmaster). I prefer it over the Aimpoint as I like the sighting reticle. To me it's a matter of personal preference; both are high quality items.
P.S.-The difference in the EOTech 511 and 512 is the batteries. The 511 uses N cell, the 512 uses AA.

I mounted a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 40mm scope on my AR using Warne "Tactical" rings, and it is a fine combination. The cost of the scope was about $400 which is a bargain for a scope of that quality.

I just put this EOtech 512 on mine:

If I has something a little more "target" oriented or I was doing alot of shooting from different yardages I would get this:

The Leupold is not mine, it's on loan from addax tactical for a photoshoot. This optic is amazingly clear.

I have a "T" and an "A"model and use either an Eotach 512.A651 on a GG&G Accucam or an Aimpoint M4 on a LaRue quick detach mount. Both are great for short/CQB work but the Aimpoint shines at 100 yards!

OK, I went with the Leupold scope, not the Mark 4 pictured above, but the less expensive AR Mark 3 with Mil Reticle. It's really nice, but sure takes up a lot of real estate, so much so that you can't really use the excellent BUIS on the "T" with the scope mounted. I did get some nice tight groups at 100 yards with it which is a major achievement for me.

Thanks for everybody's thoughts/suggestions. My next purchase will probably be an Aimpoint to complement the Eotech 512 and the Leupold scope, but that's gonna have to wait a while. ARs sure are money pits :)

I'm a huge fan of Aimpoint products and have M2s sitting on 2 ARs, 1 AK, and a Marlin 336. A T1 sits on my latest AK build. I do have a 551 EoTech on a seperate AR though and havent had any issues with it other than short battery life.
