Nice day to be out and about. Headed up with the posse to see what trouble we could stir. No lines in sight, as a matter of fact not too many folks. Not a good thing if "walk in action" is what you're looking for. I guess bumping the admit to an even $10 kept some folks out, the lack of FFL dealers is another reason. My bud needed a MP 15 so naturally after shopping we wound up back at Khalid's (Shoot Straight). Nobody had much anything other than the Sport which ranged from a low of $579 to a high of $699. Khalid knocked $100 off the tag price so he got the rifle for $40 less than the tag price OTD. The 4473 chairs were empty and bossman wasn't in a mood to hunker and dicker. Actually I embarrassed him a little bit for texting in the middle of the deal. He sped off to Segway the next victim. S&W revolvers are officially out of reach. Khalid had a very nice model 18-3 sitting on top of its' 2 piece box, but at $1095 there wouldn't be enough oxygen to breathe until dangerously close to the deck which ain't happening. I saw many guns in the $500-$900 range but outside of a nickel 6" 27-2 for $700, No bargains. The guy with the nice tables of S&W's covered in mesh seems to add $50-$100 to every piece at every show. Guess he figures it's like doubling down on losing bets, sooner or later you have to hit. 617's were 4 digits as well as 17's. I'd hate to be getting into collecting today but one of our group had no experience with guns, never even held on till today. Since he was driving a convertible Mercedes worth more than my house, I'm sure he wouldn't balk at a $1200 Model 18 if that was his frame of reference. I'm glad I didn't burn up the whole day, if I was by myself I'd have been done in an hour and a half. Be back 4th of July I guess. Joe

I dot know why people go to these gun shows, including myself.
I have not bought anything in years.

How was the ammo vending?

Getting better. .22lr was still over .10/rd. One guy had cases of "Winchester plated 36 gr hp" I think it was 2375 rds for $325 others were 550/525 bulk Federals for $50. Doc bought .223 XTac 55gr PMC bronze for $10/box. Khalid knocked $1 off/box because he spent $1070 on a MP 15. I was looking for some 158 gr .357 (not that I am switching carry guns) but I didn't see any for less than $2/rd. I can do better online even with shipping. I was proud to say that I knew exactly where everything is at at this show but the regular dealers are disappearing one by one and where there were guns are now Chinese flashlights or AR accessories. I'd like to quit going but a couple days before, I start making Saturday morning available by doing the yardwork after work on Friday. A couple more years and gunshows will be a thing of the past. Joe

Thanks Joe, if they keep it up gunshows will certainly become relics of a bygone era.

I miss your sage advice Dick but I am having trouble justifying a 40 mi. round trip (in doc's vehicle with him picking up the admit for the whole troop!) so 200 miles would only be worth it if'n you was in town to visit the "Mouse." See ya in Lakeland September 20, mark your calendar. Joe

It is harder and harder to get a good deal at a gunshow. I guess I am lucky to have what I already bought. Once or twice a year you find an S&W at a good price "buried"on a table of Colts or in the "just traded in section". Best of luck to all here.

I gave up looking for Smiths at gunshows some time ago. I had to laugh when you said the $10 entry might be putting folk off. I haven't seen a $10 show here in a VERY long time.

As for whether shows will go on, it depends what you are after. I had some luck with a nice milsurp at a show before Christmas. That said some of the regular vendors were still hawking the same overpriced stuff, some of it for the second or third YEAR. Same show comes up again soon, but I recently bought a couple of nice things with my tax rebate so maybe I should slow down.

I go every chance I get, last show i got 500 nickel plated 9mm cases for 15 bucks. That was a pretty good deal. Really though, I only buy reloading stuff. Though at the next one I will purchase another handgun from a non-dealer, nice to have a few the government doesn't know about.

Entertainment, the only reason to go. There were these 3 Chinese guys walking around buying everything that wasn't nailed down. Only one spoke English. I saw them with ARs, a Tavor, several handguns. Last time I saw them they were at the table of the guy with display cases with guns piled according to model. 1911's, 1917's etc. These 3 were buying a Broomhandle with stock for $6K, the asking price. Excited as puppies in a meat market. Good to get back some of that WalMart money. Joe

How many of those 'steals/deals' were Friday evening before opening to the general public?
Yes, I could buy a table and be there before the opening bell to see what's a great deal.
