I ran across a fabulous Buck 110 on an auction and pulled the trigger.

Wait, that's not it. That was my brother's work knife. ;)

Here it is.

It's a Buck 110 with custom Larvikite scales by Michael Hoover. The silver nickel bolsters were engraved by Peter Elovich.

I tried to capture the iridescence of the Larvikite but I'm not a professional photographer. They're incredible.

I also picked up a couple of nice sterling belt buckles.

The knife came with the build card.

Will have to educate myself on Larvikite but the knife has a fantastic look to it. That is an heirloom knife that anyone would appreciate.

Reminds me of this past deer season. My son came home from Tennessee for the week and I hadn’t given him his 30th birthday present yet. I gave him my dads factory engraved Buck 112. It had a waterfowl scene engraved on blade. My dad would never use it. He said it was too nice to take out in the woods. I polished up the brass and when I went to sharpen it, it was clear that was the first time. The knife has to be 40 yrs old. My son was 3 months old when his grandfather died. He was very happy to get the knife. Then he was very happy to field dress a buck and doe with it a couple days later.

Larvikite is an igneous rock (formed from magma) found in Norway. The iridescence is from various feldspar crystals in the stone.

Larvikite was a new one to me also. The fit of the scales to the bolsters is near perfect. No space at all. Blue is my favorite color and this knife spoke to me. It was too nice to pass on.

This post inspired me to show my two Buck 110s:

The top is an early 3-dot example in mint shape harking from the very early 80s/late 70s. I bought it not too long ago as more of a collectors piece. It features the earlier square bolsters and bits and bobs of yesteryear. I treated it to a very fine brown horizontal belt carry case handmade.

The bottom is a newer I believe 2015 blade that I have used a great deal. It has been my primary squirrel cleaning knife and EDC sometimes. It’s very nice. Notice the rounded bolsters and “diamondwood” scales.
