For a very nice M640-1, I'm considering the purchase of one of the following concealment holsters, as an option to pocket carry:

Andrews Leather Saddle Style, Strong Side, Tension Hold
Andrews Custom Leather

or

El Paso #88 Street Combat, Strong Side
#88 "Street Combat" Holster

Initial purchase price aside, wondering if anyone has any experience - or thoughts on either?

Criteria is retension, general construction quality, & comfort.

Your input would be appreciated - thanks in advance!

GCF, I do not own either but have read and heard of both companies. Both have good reputations for quality products and would probably serve you well.
To me holsters are like shoes. The ones that fit you may just hurt my feet. This is why you read about guys having a bunch of holsters in a drawer. You just don't know until you try them.
Good luck with your purchase.

I carry my J frame that same Andrews holster. I like it very much, no issues at all.

I use a Galco Concealable Belt Holster for J frame carry. Holds the gun close to my body. Very pleased.

I wear the #88 Street Fighter by El Paso with my Shield. It fits very well. The craftsmanship is excellent. The price is fair but had them stamp the holster with fish scales for additional cost. I also own other El Paso holsters (mainly Threepersons). El Paso is top of the line in quality.

I like the Galco "Combat Master" for my J frames. I have one in tan and black. It is a pancake style and the gun is close to the body. very comfortable. The website only has a picture of a semi auto version. Arizona Gun Runners had very good prices on Galco products.

I use a Milt Sparks PMK.Milt Sparks Holsters

Pretty hard to beat Milt Sparks quality of workmanship. I actually own a Sparks PMK, for my 4" M686 no dash. Very secure, & hides the L frame pretty well - under an oversize Cabellas short sleeve canvas shirt.

Considered it for the M640, but though it might not ride not ride high enough, to conceal without the oversize cover shirt. Was I off base with that?

GCF,

The Andrews Saddle Style holster definitely rides higher than the PMK.

Looks like it would work well with a shorter cover garment.

I have 4 of Sam Andrews holsters....one is a pocket holster for my J frame. The others are for my H&K PSP. & 2 for my Kimber Pro Carry. Sam is a great guy to work with.At one time he also made knife sheaths(I had him make me one BEFORE he stopped). It's a shoulder rig which fits my 6"
knife carries very well beneath a jacket or vest.

I got this for my 60 Pro, workmanship is great and heavy duty, very comfortable and fits like a glove, great prices, they have a lot of different models, all hand made!

I have no experience with either holster maker, but after looking at their products, while both appear to be quality made my choice would be the Andrews.

That's a very nice looking holster! May have to look into getting one for my Model 60-0.
