Just saw an Owen SMG on the Aussie TV show, Sea Patrol. The show has some nice stuff, inc. Czech Skorpions.

First one I've ever seen outside of a book.

Anyone else here know what they are?

Can you post a photo? The top-mounted magazine looks pretty weird.

That's it, but the one on TV had a perforated barrel jacket. May be something the prop dept. altered.

It's a classic WW II steel tube sub-gun that I had forgotten. I don't remember any on TV or in the movies. The prop house that rented guns to film makers must not have had any. That might be a sign that very few were smuggled back by GIs. I'd bet a nickle that Australia destroyed nearly all of them. I hope they worked well in the jungle.

Went out on patrol once in 1967 with some Australian ADGs (Airfield Defense Guards). At least one guy had an Owen. I opted for an L1A1 in that I had actually handled one once...

The Owen was an ugly little thing that looked like it was made out of leftovers, but the Australians seemed fond of it. I never got to shoot one, though.

I took a few pictures on that outing; I think the Owen shows up in one or two...

The Owen reminds me of the Sten with magazine in a different place.
