has anyone gone through this before? Did they keep ya overnight or just general anesthesia? Let ya drive yourself home?

Thanks!

They don't replace the battery. They replace the old ICD with a new one.

I had the explant/implant done twice. The first lasted 8 years and my current one has 4 years left.

Both procedures were done as an outpatient. I was in and out in a few hours. No discomfort through either procedure

Thank Heaven for Versed.

If you receive Versed or an equivalent sedation you will not be able to drive yourself home. Sometimes outpatient but an overnight stay may be required to monitor the device performance.Ask your physician.

Wife got her third pacemaker last year. Old pacemaker was replaced with new, wiring was left in place. She came home the same day, no complications. Not much else to say. I drove her home.

In- or Outpatient, probably best to have someone drive you home after the procedure.
thanks to all, this being main reason am asking. They be watching me like a hawk after driving myself back (2 hrs) from kidney grab and stab.

At least a dozen times in my life I have experienced the chemical joy ride that is Versed. Instant deep slumber with no memory of the procedure. In every time it wore off quickly so I never felt impaired afterwards.

Having someone drive you home is sound advice as your left arm will have limited duty as self dissolving sutures and super glue is all that is holding the chest wound closed.
