I bought 2 Pachmayr Grippers for N frames and am really disappointed. Went to put a set on my 5" N Frame .357 Mag, and cannot do so as the hole for the screw is right in the middle of the main spring, and I cannot get the screw past the spring.
I'm really disappointed and PO'd.
Threw both Grippers in the trash.

All you have to do is bend the spring one way or another to miss the screw. More bend if you want a lighter action, less bend for super reliability. It doesn't take much. If more bend, make sure it won't hit the spring by cocking the hammer with one half of the grip on and one half off.

While I am not a Pachmayer fanboy they do make a couple of grips that I would recommend. Their Compac grips for a J frame and their Presentation grips. Not as pretty as some but if they work they work. I had a beautiful set of Ahrends grips on my 19-3 that fit like a glove. Problem was they were so slick I could barely keep a good grip. The Presentation grips made a world of difference. Now I actually enjoy shooting it and have decided not to get rid of it.

"Spit" grip works wonders for wood grips, especially in the dry winter months.

I’ve always liked the Pachmayr Presentation and Compac grips…very functional and recoil absorbing. The major issue with rubber grips in general is they tend to print when carrying concealed as your clothes don’t slide well across them.

Finger groove grips? Never liked them whether they were rubber, wood or anything else. I don’t like them aesthetically or practically…unless your hand is built perfectly for them they don’t fit your hand and it’s slower to grasp in a hurry.

Funny story, back in the day (40 years ago or so) I had a set of Pachmayr Grippers on my M28-2 service revolver and I commented to a fellow Trooper (& dear friend) that I didn’t care for them (due to my large hands). He wanted them so we traded right there in the squadroom. Those Pachmayr Presentation grips are still on that old Highway Patrolman.

What did Pachmayr say when you contacted them?

I got a pair of older Compacs on a Model 49, replaced them with magnas and a BK, then decided to try the orphaned Pachy’s on my 640-3. It was a match made in heaven. The little monster is actually fun to shoot with .357 Silvertips now.
