Packard Electric Company Triple Lock revolvers

Fortunately, billionaires aren't too interested in the guns I want to buy. More likely rednecks drinking too much bourbon on a Sunday evening.

One thing is for sure, I wouldn't have been bidding $50k on that engraved S&W No. 1 Second Issue even if DB's fingerprints were still on it.

Right, definitely not worth anywhere what it hammered at. Even my “original” high bid in the 16k range was probably too high by a few thousand.

It’s a game I’ll never play again, truly a crazed moment.

Also, with regards to this statement, this is why fine artwork regularly hammers in the $1 million plus range, $30 million, $50 million not uncommon, up to nearly half a billion. I was at a local auction once where a Chinese vase with a pre auction estimate of about $1000 hammered at $300,000 or so.

I think most billionaires are ultra liberal or, at least, come from a non firearms background. It’s also cool to be anti 2A. Fortunate for us. If not, I think a lot of the stuff we covet would be beyond our reach. And a notable firearms sale is one where a firearm valued in the 4 or low 5 figure range sells for 3 or 4 times that value, or a 6 figure valued one sells at twice that pre auction estimate. You’ll never find a firearm with a $2500 pre auction estimate hammer at $150k. Unless a really un knowledgeable seller, buyer, or both.

And here’s a thought. The number 8 is revered in Chinese culture:

Chinese numerology - Wikipedia

I can just about guarantee you if wealthy Chinese businessmen were into firearms, any revolver with serial number 8, 88, 888, 8888, etc, you wouldn’t be able to touch it.

The Significance of Numbers in Chinese Culture: Lucky 8 and Unlucky 4 - Movers and Lorry Services - TheLorry Singapore

I suspect Chairman Xi's aversion to firearms in private citizen Chinese hands will retard the bidding by Chinese nationals regardless of how many 8s are in the SN.

That's good news, I had already posted an extra shift of guards around my safe to ward off the throngs of Bill Hickock enthusiasts trying to get at my "Aces & Eights" .32-20 (SN 118889)...Maybe I'll cancel my order for facial recognition software in case any of them disguise themselves as Chinese refugees seeking asylum......Ben

Congrats to mrcvs on a fine old revolver. On the second of third day of the same auction, a pocket watch was auctioned off that belonged to an employee of Packard. It was an engraved watch (possibly a retirement watch) that might well of been the owner of the triple lock. It might be nice to look up the pocket watch auction lot to retrieve this person's name.

Can you post a link? I missed this and cannot find it post auction.

I went back and appempted to pull up the auction items from the Poulin June Auction. All I was able to obtain was the auction item numbers and the sold for price. I do believe the pocket watches were in the last day of the auction.

I think your best bet might be to contact the auction house and see if they can help. I think with them knowing you are the winner of the target triple lock, they will be happy to help. They also maybe able to verify if there is a connection between the watch and the revolver.

Best of luck.
