I recently picked up this Padgitt Bros. holster and was wondering how many others on the forum have an example of their leatherwork or a gun that letters to them.

Padgitt Brothers' Wholesale Saddlery Company was a fixture in downtown Dallas from 1873 until 1966 when their big brick building on Commerce Street was razed to make way for a new federal courthouse.

Their main business was the manufacture and sale of saddles and harness but they also provided both guns and holsters to the Dallas Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies and officers.

The 2" Model 10 pictured with the holster is DPD marked but it shipped in 1974, a few years after Padgitt Bros. closed their doors.

That’s a beauty. I’ve got a plain Jane and have had several over the years.
Everybody loves Texas makers.

Regards,

I owned a Padgitt Bros. roughout saddle made for me in 1953. I owned it until it was stolen in 1988. My very first saddle for my very first horse.
Padgitt Bros. was known for their trophy saddles for Madison Square Garden Rodeo back in the day.

I suspect the Padgitts made a lot more saddles than holsters. Between the brothers in Dallas and older brother,Tom, in Waco they pretty well owned the saddle and harness market in Texas from the late 19th century until the middle of the 20th.

It seems holsters were a sideline at best, but they made a quality product for a wholesale manufacturer.

Good question. I had to go look at the holster again to find the answer. It is slotted for a 2.5" belt. The narrower High Noon belt I put on it for the picture slipped down, making it look like it sets higher than it does.

With a proper sized belt, the gun sets deep enough in the holster that the cylinder is slightly below the top of the belt and it doesn't move at all when carried. It's the only holster I have for a 2" K-frame that doesn't have a retention strap and doesn't need one.
