Painting the lettering - What to use?

What do you guys like to use to paint the logos/lettering etc on the slides? Want to do a red white blue theme on my M&Ps, but don't want to have to re-do it all the time. What have you used that worked? What have you used that didn't work?

Appreciate the advice.

Use Crayola crayons in the colors of your choice. Lasts a long time and easy to renew if need. Best part is that it's easy to remove so you won't loose your behind when you trade or sell it. Plenty of Youtube videos to guide you.

I used Testors enamel paint and Mr. Magic Erasers to remove excess paint when dry.

1 Clean area where you're are applying the Testors paint with rubbing alcohol.
2 Thin the paint out with paint thinner. (Small amount of paint goes along way in the rollmarks)
3 Apply paint with needle or safety pin.
4 Let dry. ( I used the my wife's hair dryer to speed up the process)
5 Used the Mr.Clean Magic Erasers and some elbow grease to remove any smears of paint off.
6 If you want more coats just repeat the process.
My paint has held up good with daily carry and cleaning. Inexpensive mod for your choosing and you can easliy change if it not to your liking. Good luck and post some pics of your results.

I used good nail polish on mine. I cleaned it first with rubbing alcohol then painted it on. After waiting for it to dry some I removed the excess with non-acetone polish remover. It has held up really well with daily carry. I even did the logo on the bottom of the mags.

I went to Menards and bought some paint markers. Like Magic Markers but its paint. Cover the lettering or logos etc. let dry 15 minutes and use some alcohol to wipe off excess. BUT don't use a lot of alcohol. I used some old t-shirt material stretched tight over my finger and gently wiped off the excess. Works very well and its durable.

Not a fan of letter fill myself, but Bishop's work looks great.
Enamel paint is a good idea, you'll want to go with something solvent-resistant, unless you never clean your gun.

My Wife & I have many 'Duplicates' of pistols. Painting lets us tell hers from mine, without having to look at the serial numbers.

It's also a carry-over from the military, where we used to colorize the serial numbers.
I use the 'Painters' brand fine tipped paint pens (carried in the craft dept of WalMart)

For the old style 'China Marker'/Crayon method, this is a good resource.

I guess for the same reason people duracoat guns. Boredom in the winter months and for the simple fact that the guns are theirs. Why not personalized your property the way you want? I don't care what it looks like as long as it performs when I need it the most.

These examples look great. Like any gun paint job don't push the limits of taste. Like all that I put on my '63 Galaxie with the 223 'mileage maker' engine was an STP and a Thrush sticker. I thought overkill might have drawn attention to the actual car.

White Lettering On Guns

Didn't ever colorize or otherwise mod any weapons in my outfits over 23 years. Nope. Well, we did put discreet white local control numbers on them. Small two or three digits in a place least likely to be seen.

The Painters pens are neat. Perfect for fixing white dot sights when they disappear, which does happen in M&Ps. Excess scrapes off easily with your fingernail. This from S&W service people.

There were some trucks made in (I think) the Philippines that were very ordinary and fabricated like in a sheet metal shop. But people jazz them up very elaborately and each one is a personal statement. One I remember had a host of religious figures welded to the hood.

I'm amazed that you are amazed. Man has been personalizing his weapons since we climbed down from the trees. Its an age old interest that appeals to some and not to others.

Color fill represents very little expenditure, just a bit of time and effort. The end result is a low price point functional gun that's a bit more individualized to its owner.

Naw, it just makes everyone around you look at the gun instead of you're target and score. Then you just lie about the score.

I don't believe in making your carry gun more visible, especially if you live in a state with weird brandishing statutes. Also highly dependent on your carry setup whether any of that would show regardless.
But largely, it's like worrying about the color of an emergency parachute- if you've got to use it, you've got bigger fish to fry.

These markings don't make it any more visible especially when carried CC or in a holster. The only person that gets to see it is the owner unless he chooses to show it to someone else. If it makes a person happy to have it done then so be it. If it is not your thing then simply don't do it.

I used a product I bought at Michaels craft store. I think it is Testers paint and thinner.
