Last week I decided to treat myself for a year of hard work. I found several S&W for sale on line. They had descriptions but pics hadnt been yet posted. I researched the seller and found favorable feedback. While I wanted pics, I knew others would likely grab up the guns while I waited for pics and in one case a 4" model 27-2 sold before I could get pics and make a decision. I decided to take a chance and bought 3 sight unseen. I am glad I did. The two 27-2 5" guns look amazing. I am not sure the nickel has ever been fired. The older blued 5" has original numbered stocks and 2 T's with an "S" prefix. The later nickel has 3 T's. This is my only nickeled gun, but it wont be for long! Both very nice!
The surprise was the 6.5" 27-2. I have been looking for a 6.5" gun for a while. So I was happy to snag this one. It was listed as 27-2 "S" prefix 3 T's 60-61. Upon arrival I was very pleased to find it is actually a 27-1 4 screw!!
Buying without pics is a bit scary but sometimes you just got to jump on it. I am glad I did in this case. All 3 guns are better than described and priced below what they would sell for in my AO.

Getting a 27-1 in that condition, at what I assume was 27-2 pricing, misidentified….

Wow. That's like buying a barn find Chevelle SS454 listed as Malibu with a 350 in it.

Exactly and I am typically the guy that grossly overpays or who gets screwed on most deals.
I paid $1250 for what was listed as 27-2 all original in 98% condition. I thought that was a good price. As it turns out its a 27-1, makes it an amazing price.

27-2 blued 5", 27-2 nickel 5", 27-1 blued 6.5"

What a great trio and the beautiful -1 is a real treat!!!

Unbelievable
A 27-1 for $1250.00 to say the least not bad? That's a big time find!!!! IMHO

I keep seeing all these Threads where someone finds this or that at a great price. I must be Bad Luck Schlep Rock from the Flintstones, as I have only found 1 Smith at a heck of a deal basis, but it was only at a $200 under cost. I Congratulate you Sir!!!!

I do think someone on this forum keeps a file on 27-1's He may want to add the data?

Congratulations to you on your wonderful buy, those are a great trio. You just gave all of us a boost in our collecting endeavors.
If you decide to share the serial number of the 27-1, Joe Cebull has a database of - 1 guns that it could be added to.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy.

Checking out the dealer in advance is your ace in the hole. If they had been not as expected you may have been able to return them.

I don't know if they would have accepted a return. He probably would have told me to wait for pictures if I wasn't comfortable. I completely understand that but I also know others were buying without pics because the 4" I wanted was already gone. It was a risk but the descriptions were detailed and the feedback on the seller was very strong so I took a chance. I bought a K frame 6 months ago online from a different seller with pics and got completely bamboozled. The pics didn't show the problem areas by design, and the description was just vague enough to provide plausible deniability for the seller. I didn't even argue with him. He knows what he did and I'll never buy from him again. That's all I can do. I'm not happy about overpaying by about $800 for that gun because of the condition but it's unfortunately part of buying and selling on line these days. My good fortune with the -1 is just the flip side of the coin. I just hope the seller, if he sees this doesn't get mad with me or expect more money because of his oversight or error. Overall in my accumulating history I would say I'm still in the red as far as good deals.

Great find at a tremendous price. Your gamble really paid off. We share your enthusiasm and thrilled that it went to a forum member who will give it a good home.
