Back in the 1970s I wanted a 1911 in 22LR. But the only ones I saw were the Colt Ace models and they collector pieces. So I bought a Colt Conversion Unit and bought some aftermarket frame in alloy.
I couldn't get it working right so I sold the frame.
In the late 1990s (I think) I saw a complete Daly 1911 lower on Gunbrker for $140. It took many hours of tinkering but I finally got it functioning 100%. I bought a set of fake ivory grips at a show and had the guy engrave a personal logo on the right side (a winged serpent rising over a battlement). Then I had a jeweler friend mount a small diamond beneath the artwork (real diamond stocks).
Now several makers produce 1911s in 22 caliber. But I think mine has a certain panache. PS: I would prefer a spur hammer but not going to mess with it.
