I have a pretty nice 18-2 I bought that has the front sight filed down. I replaced the rear blade with the lowest one I could find and it shoots point of aim. I just bothers me looking at it so I e-mailed S&W and asked if they could mill the blade off cut in a pinned sight like the earlier ones had, I asked for a Baughman. They said they could do it for $150 but the replacement would be a partridge. I have several 17's and an outdoorsman, but I don't know about the way an 18 would look. Not sure what to do.

if your model 18 currently shoot well.....leave it as it is and enjoy....

Are you sure yours is machined as part of the rib and not pinned? Look close for pins that are finished flush.
By the way, the sight you refer to is named after the designer, Mr. Patridge, not the bird from the pear tree. :-)

I'm guessing your 18 has a 4" barrel which usually had a ramp sight. If S&W can't install one I would take it to a reputable gunsmith. A good one can duplicate original work.

Had this done at the factory on my 66 I won at the Nationals. Much better for serious shooting.
