You're on the right track. Some parts kits are minus the entire receiver or has the receiver either torch cut or dewat (deactivated war trophy) per BATFE regs or certain receiver parts (ie, right side plate) will be missing.
In addition to the receiver, some current BATFE specs require the barrel to be cut or drilled, etc. A waste of fine barrels in a lot of cases.

Not all parts kits are created equal. Some will have barels some will not, most will have all internal parts. Receivers and stocks are never included. God luck on fitting the parts.

thanks yall for the help.

m1gunner i was looking at different one mostly an ak74. any easy kits u know of?

Looks to me like the AK platform needs access to some machine shop tools to convert a kit to a gun. Not impossible, but not easy either.

The AR platform is easy to work with, and with rounds like the 300 Blackout, I can't see any reason for going with an AK. AR parts are very readily available, and caliber changes are quick and easy.

Generally a parts kit is an imported "non-sporting" firearm (ie, a machine gun). Since it's not allowed to import these as working firearms, the receivers are chopped up or removed. Several years ago they also banned importation of barrels as well, so they are missing or demilled.

Kits can generally be reassembled on US made receivers as long as they are built as semi automatics. There is a thriving industry in supplying parts for home builders. Some of us even make our own receivers. The AK, for example, can be bent out of sheet metal.

Just as an example, all but two in this picture are home builds, and most were built on sheet metal receivers.
