I had the honor of going to KC to participate in the Patriot Guard Ride to honor (and shield the family) CPO M. Mason, a Seal killed in that CH47 attack in Afgan.

My goal was to provide interferrence between that idiot Phelps and his Wesbourgh ******* Cult and the Family.

Turns out that wasn't necessary as the good people of KS/MO had them surrounded and our bikes and flags wasn't needed. We couldn't even see them for the crowds of citizens.

We got the honor of Escourting CMP Mason and his family (including members of Seal Team 6) to and from the church. Plus provide honor guard and poll bearers.

It was about 50 miles from the funeral home and Chuch. The KC area cops pretty much closed down parts of I435 & I35 while about 200 motorcycles provided the escourt.

The thanks we recieved from the family and members of Seal Team 6 made the all night motorcyle ride to KC worth every bit of it.

One thing that did surprise me, seems that about 90% of the Patriot Guard/Riders were Vietnam Vets. I can only assume its because we don't want todays soldiers to get the same treatment we got when we came back.

If you ever get a chance to participat in such an honer, it will be well worth you effort. I can think of no better way to pay respect to our fallen.

I usually don't do the youngsters when one is taken from us, there always seem to be plenty of folks there. I try and do one a week at least, they are usually WWII, Korea and Viet Nam vets. On those, we average about 10 or 12 bikes. Over the last year, many many WWII vets have gone. Recently, alot of 'Nam vets.

You honor your country and your family. Thank you.

Thank you KRAIGWY for taking the time to honor one of our brave Fallen Warriors. The comfort that your generous gesture helped to give to a grieving family on the worst day of their lives is something you can always treasure. I have been a member of the MS PatriotGuard for the last three years and have ridden many Honor Missions and I can assure you that the affected families truly appreciate the honor paid to their loved ones. I have made the PGR my retirement vocation and wish I had joined much sooner. It is the utmost importance that we all donate a little of our time to honor those who have given all their tommorows so that we may have our today.

Yes, a large number of PGR members are Vietnam Vets and want to never again have our young men and women in uniform mistreated so shamefully as during that terrible time. You don't, however, have to be a veteran to join the PGR. You don't even have to ride a motorcycle. All you have to posess is love and respect for those who keep us free and the desire to honor their service to our nation. Join today: you will never regret it.

Very awesome thing you have done! I never could join because of work, but my wife used to do the rides. There were times she would back the bike out of the garage at 5AM in NJ to attend a mission in Maryland. A few years ago they had one in NYC, but my NYPD sent them on their way.

Thanks for your efforts!

The OP mentioned that it is mostly Vietnam vets that are doing the escorting...

I think that in years to come, you will see the numbers of younger veterans rise, and participation too.

I served in Iraq, and am just beginning to work with wounded warriors who are transitioning back to civilian life....and most of our mentors are Vietnam Vets.

Thanks again for the protection against those Westboro freaks, and a final salute to the soldiers and sailors who lost their lives in that CH-47 crash.

From one PGR to another, thank you. I do as many missions as I can, and have been to several where Phelps's bunch has shown up. Sometimes it's all I can do not to confront those bigoted hate-mongers.
