PC question

To start with I am getting into suppressors a couple at a time. Rifle side covered for now, a couple for pistols, rimfire, etc, next.

2nd, my love of 3rd generations doesn’t make it easy.

3rd, I’ve been wanting a Model 41 for quite a while. I found 1 for a decent price. I’ve been watching it for far too long and am itching to get it. It is a 5.5 inch, mid 90s model.

Question- When I get it, can I send it to the PC to have work done? I would love to have a 7.5 barrel fitted to it. But have it cut, crowned and threaded for a suppressor. Is this something PC will do? Has anyone done this?

Moderator Tom S. has a suppressed model 41. I've shot it, but I don't remember the details. I'm sure he'll be along soon.

The Performance Center was formerly a group of selected and very talented gunsmiths and designers that hand-fitted pistols and revolvers and could do a wide array of custom tasks or repairs on S&W guns. I believe it was first formed in the early 1990’s and they worked closely with company endorsed competitive shooters that made up Team Smith & Wesson. They even had a separate facility aside from the factory.

The PC was winding down by the late 2010’s and if I had to pick a date, I would say it was absolutely gone by 2011. The facility is no longer in operation.

These days, “the PC” is a fancy logo that denotes some added features or aesthetics to production guns. Nothing that S&W makes with or without the PC logo is hand built or fit and referring to the PC as some magical place where pistolsmith legends can do amazing things to a handgun is a dream or a memory and nothing more.

The Performance Center was lightning in a bottle and absolutely the finest time in the modern, recent history of S&W. I have and will continue to argue that the BEST semiautomatic pistols ever made by S&W ( — ever — ) were built by the Performance Center from 1990-2010.

Today in the year 2024, the Performance Center does not exist, and it has not, for more than a dozen years. And this is the truth regardless of what S&W might say or hint or advertise.

I purchased a Clark barrel for mine. Word of warning, if you aren't comfortable with fitting the barrel (involves a bit of filing) send your frame to them for fitting.

There's always at least two sides to everything. I sent a model 14 to the PC in the 90's, and they really screwed it up. I wish I could remember the gunsmith's name in Alabama that I sent it after that to have fixed; he did a great job.

He called me later and said he had talked to Ed Schultz at an industry meeting, and that I might be getting a call from him about a free gun. Very shortly after that Mr. Schultz had much larger problems than myself. I've always wondered if he would have called me or not if those problems hadn't arose. No way to know.

Well you must admit that we live in fantastic times. The Performance Center is long, long gone but now if you want a revolver that is screwed up, things are FAR easier as S&W ships a fat number of them exactly that way.
