I have these thin, georgous old pearls on a early nickle 50's pre 10 38 special. Just put on t-grip from SUPERMN. Should i be worried about cracking them? No plus P loads here. Old time Texas Rangers seemed to do alright with them. Of course, the SA's roll in the hand and have less torque. Any experience shooting guns with pearls out there?

I don't have any experience shooting 'em, but the common wisdom seems to be don't shoot with the pearls as they are brittle. Ivory, elephant anyway, is okay to shoot as it is not.

Why not slip on some wood or rubber for shooting sessions, and put the pearls back on for carry or display?

If you need to shoot somebody, which will almost certainly never happen, and they break, so what? So I'd go ahead and carry that way if you like 'em.

And how about a photo?

Onomea. I'm still trying to figure out how to post pictures. I signed ut to photobucket. Didn't you ask me once to post a picture of my new New Service 45 with a 2" barrel? I read the instructions. I'm only 52 but I'm a dinasaur when it comes to this stuff. No wonder I like old guns.

Wyatt, BDGreen has taught many of us, including me, how to post pix. Check here: http://smith-wessonforum.com/e...0103904/m/3011047303

I'd love to see your pearls, and I'd especially love to see that New Service 45 with a 2" barrel. Here's a pic of some aftermarket pearls on my '05 triplelock:

Gatorfarmer, I sent you a picture of my 2" New Service to the address in your private file. It's diff. than the one you posted. I've never even sent pictures before. Did you get it??

I didn't get anything Wyatt. I checked my Spam folder too, and don't see anything. Did you include the "_", that sometimes causes a problem since it is hard to see if you type it out instead of pasting it. It should be c_fisher1928 at yahoo.com

Thank's Gator, for posting this picture. I think Onomea wanted to see this one before when I wrote something about it. I was looking for a New Service to have chopped down. I've wanted one or years. Then I saw some on this forum and REALLY wanted one. I found this at a gunshow, already cut down, a great front sight, and tuned up as smooth as my Python. It cost $600.

Thanks for posting that NS snub, Wyatt (and Gator). Have you checked Proofhouse or your books for DOB?

Looking at the squarish shape of the cylinder latch, I'm guessing it is pretty early. Those stags are nice, too, and run between $150 to maybe $200, so I think for your money you got a great deal. (Half the price of a Python and a far more interesting gun.)

Is it 45 Colt or ACP? (Say, with a NS, ya run outta ammo ya can always club your assailant to death! That's a serious man's revo!)

I like that gun a lot, Wyatt. Has some serious character.

Should i be worried about cracking them?

Yes...please don't.

I've seen really collectible grips ruined by overtightening grip screws, trying to fit grips to the wrong grip-frame, fracturing them by dropping, drilling them for medallions and cracking them by shooting recoil.

There's no sense taking a chance.

If you're going to shoot your revolver regularly [and why not!], take those pearls off and let me send you a set of wood 'shooters' free. Just check my e-mail address and you'll realize that I'm serious.

Onomea, That's 1920 if I recall. 45ACP with 1917 markings on butt. This gun came with huge Herret's Shooting Stars. The stags and T-grip were added by me. No finish and I think I'll keep it that way. The hammer spur might come off later. Just a big cool chunk of steel that fits PERFECT in the hand. Yeah. The picture sucks. And I don't know nothin' about computers. Yet.
