I was not even thought of at that time but, I have several aunts and uncles that served. My Dad was in the Merchant Marines and my Mother worked in an aircraft factory in Philadelphia.

Dad was a senior high school. He was drafted, and asked if he could finish his senior year, as he was almost done with high school. He agreed to enlist as soon as he graduated. Not sure what year that was but a couple years after Pearl Harbor. He was wounded by a grenade on Okinawa a short time before we nuked Japan. Dad died in 1992 and had a lot of resentment toward Japan.

I had an Uncle who fought in New Guiena and until his dying day he would not buy anything made in Japan if he knew it. He had lots of problems with foot and nail fungus because of it. He never talked about the horrors.
