And I love it. I'm a garbage man, and you find some useful stuff. I've brought home hd tvs that still worked that people have thrown out. Found myself a rail light for the ar today. Took it home put some batteries in it and it still works. It's a utg, but hey for free I can't really complain! :D

Looks good to me & the price was right!

Since our grand daughter has been born we find all kinds of like new toys sitting beside the dumpsters people throw away. We clean them up with bleach & she loves them! I guess they just buy more when their next welfare check comes on the 1st of the month.

Someone told me a story once they had an old TV they no longer wanted, worked fine. So they put it at the curb with a FREE sign on it. No takers, after a few day they changed the sign to $25.00. Less than one day it was gone and no money was left. He didn't care just wanted it gone.

So if you want to get rid of something just put a price on it and someone will think they are stealing it!

I replaced the doors and drawers in the kitchen. Put the drawers out a day before trash day. Young man stopped and was looking at the drawers. I asked if he needed help loading. He says thanks but just not enough wood in them. I says come around back. Gave him 21 doors. He was happy so was I.

I've been know to cruise on trash days. It is amazing what people will chunk to the curb. Had a neighbor down the road that must have had several cats. They would put out 4 or 5 of those square 5 gallon cat litter buckets each month. Why buy something if you can find it for nothing....sometimes. It makes all those environmentalist happy.

The wife put my Rolex in the trash

Very, very lucky to get it back :)

It's illegal here to pick up stuff dumped for pickup, but nobody pays much attention to the law.

Many years ago I heard about someone who found a dead cat on his doorstep. He had no place to bury it and the garbage crews wouldn't take it. So he giftwrapped it, put it in a shopping bag, and set it down in a department store. In seconds it was gone.

So was your friendly neighborhood garbage man haha.

Sofla, thank you. It really is an under appreciated job lol. Pretty nasty at times too. I tend to enjoy it though for the most part. It can be fun at times. You really can learn a lot from a person, just by how they present their trash.

There's always good things to find in the trash. Just have to keep your eyes open. Guy I work with found $2500 stuffed in a couch before. At the same time you can find some messed up things. Guy I work with found the body of a newborn back in, 97 I believe it was.

And here I thought the time we found the neighbors cat dead and frozen in our yard one morning that it was messed up when my dad bagged it up and just left it on the neighbors doorstep.....

While it may not be "the garbage", I love looking through the used holster bins at my LGS. Stuff in there is priced practically free. Even if I don't find something that I want or need, I am always amused by what I find in there.

I liked it when we had the guys who rode on the back of the truck and grabbed the cans themselves. You could slip em a few bucks at Christmas and they'd remember all year helping with extra stuff or something heavy. Now it's just the guy driving the truck with the can grabber thingy.

A bit off topic but if you really want to mess with people try this sometime. I used to set up at gun shows now and again and a buddy told me take an item worth five bucks or so and tag it as free. I was amazed how long it took for it to be taken, people would pick it up and look at it and look a bit puzzled and put it back. If I remember right it was a Uncle Mikes nylon holster for a mid frame revolver.

I was cleaning out the shed from hell, wife won't go anywhere near it. 5 gal buckets from pool chemicals, messed up hedge trimmer, ancient chain saw, and a bunch of other assorted junk. All down by the road. I had called up the parish barn and told them everything was down by the road. OK we'll be there tomorrow. Well tomorrow comes and everything was gone. Had to call the barn and cancel their road trip. Works for me. Only thing I ever found was a WWII shovel that the shovel was locked in place with a knurled ring. Frank
