Hello,
I saw a previous thread from 2016 and don't see any updated threads on the topic and wanted to drop a request for advice ....
I have a Performance Center 15-22 and love the little rifle. I was swapping out the grip and over tightened and stripped out the plastic. I know I messed that up and it was my fault. Still, a pretty crappy design to have a grip attached to a firearm by screwing metal into raw polymer ... but it is what it is ....
I was looking at doing a heat set brass insert like they do with 3d printed parts. Basic concept is, a brass threaded tube that you use a soldering iron to heat and press into the hole and it melts into the plastic to create a good snug fit. I would need to make sure I don't over tighten again, but whatever it is now is NOT good.
My question is, has anyone done this fix?
My thought is to go smaller like an M4 or M6 and use a washer to connect the grip to the frame. That maximizes the amt. of Polymer that I have to work with ...
I welcome the feedback and advice ...
Note: I did call S&W and their customer service leaves a bit to be desired lately. I am still waiting on a hammer screw for my 1854 for 6+ Months :-(. When I called them on this ... they said someone should get bac to me sometime ... but no way to acknowledge they got my request and said to call back in a week+ if I don't hear anything.
Thoughts?
