Just got of the phone after a hour of interesting frustration.

I got talked into getting a big box building supply charge card a couple years ago. I was buying a tool and that would save me $30 as a member.

Not realy that impressed with that store lately and will never use the card so I decided to cancel it. I have both Master And Visa cards so that will be good enough if/when i go back there.
Made the call and after I said to the friendly computer I wanted to cancel my card and gave out all my account info as requested was transferred to a queue!

After the many mandatory your call is important please hang on we will get to you soon. No problem put the phone on speaker and did some other things at my desk. Got a few notices stating how long the wait might be. Finely got a human on line and answered the account questions that were just asked before.

She was real hard to understand and I asked a couple times to be connected to someone that spoke understandable English. Finely went back to the queue. After more of Your call is important bs got another that English was not a first language. Asked for the third time the usual questions and also demanded to know why was I canceling such a great card. She also did not realy do English that well so back in some holding pattern.

This time a male was on the line and he spoke very good English and of course asked the same questions. Getting a bit perturbed I asked him why in hell do all you people ask these question it should be transferred along with the call. Heck its all on tape anyway

He appeared to understand his job and finely told me that the account was permanently closed. I thanked him and said one last thing I want this closing in your records and I want something for my records stating it was closed by customers order.

We shall see!

I have never cancelled a card. Just cut it and pitch it. After a couple years of no transactions it will just fade away.

This is over 3 years now, they did send a letter saying they were cutting my line of credit in half!

We are contemplating a big purchase in the immediate future. Do not want something bad on my credit reports. Getting it closed by customer request eliminates any potential glitch!

Just put it in your pocket or destroy the card, don't go through the BS trying to cancel it, it will expire in a couple of years and go away by itself as long as you don't use it.:)

Actually, if you want to "improve" your credit, you need to use your cards. Credit is established by the charging and the timely payment of your charges.

I've got 3 cards I keep. One that gets me 5% cash back on all my gas, and 2% on travel. One dedicated to Amazon as wife and I read a lot using Kindle. The 3rd card sits in my wallet and gets used about once a year just to keep it active. I have not paid a penny of interest in over 50 years.

:D My normal CC get used quite regularly. I too like the idea of them paying me to use their cards.

Like said we might be making a major purchase in future and I want to keep my scores in the high zone.

Whatever will be will be, the card is deemed canceled!

Thanks to all that responded!
