Photobucket blinks

This will go down in history as the biggest business blunder since NEW Coke. $399 a year...BWAHAHAHA :D:D:D

This is their offer, basically $4.48/mo if you want third party hosting. It seems that PB has "unlocked" the formerly ransomed images already there. They can stuff it. I am now on IMGUR (free, and better than PB) and will stay there.

"The new prices start at $1.99 per month for 10 gigabytes of images stored and rise to $3.99 monthly for 20 gigabytes and $8.99 for two terabytes of storage. All the plans enable third-party hosting for a $2.49 monthly add-on price."

Does anyone still care about Photobucket? Seriously, do they?

I deleted all my photos and my account from their site months and months ago. It wasn't all that important to me that all my photos posted on gun forums remain online through the next millenium anyway.

Too little, too late on their part.

I couldn't have said it any better than that, Watchdog. They burned their bridges with me when they pulled their stunt and I deleted all my hosted pictures and then deleted my account with them too, a long time ago.

I'm basically lazy and since I was a 99 cent a month member none of my pics have been affected so I'll probably give em $20 a year.

I just deleted my Photobucket account and signed up with IMGUR. I only had a couple of images on PB, and my account was still showing as free...although the billing plans were on the site as well. I went ahead and canceled it and signed up with IMGUR on principle...and now I have to figure out how this new site works. Do you set your account to private? I just loaded one image as a test, and now I'm getting comments on it, one of which was pretty crude. That I don't care for.

I also used Photobucket for years, for free!:D I often wonder how these companies can stay in business not charging for their services? Now to think if I want to pay them $1.99 a month or find another free service!:)

I used to love photobucket.

I hope they fired everyone that had anything to do with the price changing fiasco!! I read what doublesharp posted and just have one question. What does "for a limited time" mean? Does it mean that you can get the special for a limited time or that the special will last a limited time? If you sign up for the new deal will the price increase substantially after a certain period? Or, if you sign with them, will you get the deal for the long haul? Just some food for thought.

How long ago did PB shoot themselves in the tail? I can't remember when it was. I can't believe it took them this long to make changes though!

Those were my thoughts exactly. They sure don't make that "limited time" offer very clear. Fall for it, and then 6 months or a year from now, the price goes up. Or not. Who would take the chance while there are several equivalent free services?

I have never used a third party image site. I keep my photos in my computer and merely upload them to the site any time that I want for free. Sure they show up as a thumbnail but if you click on the photo it enlarges and if you click on the enlargement it will enlarge again.

Nothing worse than looking at an old thread and instead of a photo there is an announcement from the host stating that the image is not available.

Its kind of like unwrapping a Christmas present and finding the box empty.

I am sure their profit model was based on part paid subscribers, and probably mostly thru paid advertisers. The more members they can claim, the more they can charge their advertisers, and the more advertisers they can sign up. Drastically reduced membership & posting over a short period of time really throws a wrench in that. It usually don't pay to get greedy.

Photobucket capitulates

I’m still mad at photobucket for their extortion attempt. However, I will pay $20/yr to forgo the effort of trying to replace all the photos in my threads around the internet. My first thought was “Hell no!”, but then there’s the old bit about biting off one’s nose to spite your face.
