We did a 5 day 4 night camp trip.
This was our 2nd lower Rogue of the year.
It's a great family river trip if you have the equipment and skills. One class V that is easy to go around, lots of class I, II, and III, and a couple of easy class IV's.

The Rogue is one of the first 8 Wild and Scenic Rivers protected in 1968.
There is limited use via a permit system. Living close by it’s relatively easy for us to pick up a cancellation if we didn’t have the luck to draw a permit, which was the case this year.

There are great beaches for camping and swimming and lots of wildlife.
We’ve seen 4 bears (none in camp), river otters, too many Bald Eagles, Osprey, Great Blue Herons, and deer to count.

I would just like to stay at your last camping location (pic w/tent) for a week, since I can't row or walk much... beautiful, peaceful.

Trip looks awesome. How did the little ones take to the class-5s? Looks like you had much fun and built some great memories for the kids.

The little ones don’t run the class V. Neither do the big ones for that matter lol. Rainy Falls is the class V, it’s very straight forward as far as class V goes, just a big drop. I’ve kayaked it at 7000 cfs, and rafted it at something over 3500 cfs in my younger days. It’a generally softer at higher flows. My 8 year old looks at when we scout and begs me to run it. She can do it on her own when she’s older L I’m sure there are plenty of 49 yr old’s who run class V, but I’m not one of them. I’ve guided many class V rivers like Burnt Ranch Gorge on the Trinity, and the Cal Salmon river. Those days are behind me, though I still run the Upper Klamath which is IV plus or easy V at higher flows. I’ve run it many hundreds of times though so find it comfortable.

The kids only get to do the Rogue because the Class IV’s are very easy if you know what you are doing. Though they call them accidents for a reason.

Amelia is restricted to rowing her cat to class I’s, II’s and easy threes if conditions are right. We are very cautious.

My wife and kids walk around Rainy falls river left and I row down the class III fish ladder on the right side, and pick them up at the bottom. They run everything else.

Pete, here’s another shot of that last camp. We stayed there two nights knowing it was great swimming and wading for the kids. And there is a 10’ rock that juts out over the river just upstream I jump off of and ride the current to our camp eddy.

What is the black bear situation on the Rogue? I've heard there are quite a few.

Add-on: Next time I'll read the entire paragraph. Ha.
